Job Description

What You Will Do:

The Traffic Signal Technician position requires knowledge of and experience in maintaining, repairing, and installing basic traffic signals, highway lighting, and miscellaneous electrical devices (e.g. signal pedestrian heads, poles, foundations, cables, conduits, luminaires, controller cabinets, flashing beacons, and school flashers). 

Other duties may include but are not limited to pouring concrete for the installation of poles and control equipment, responding to emergency calls, nights, weekends, and holidays, using a computer and/or mobile devices and related traffic signal software for traffic signal operation and maintenance, under supervision, constructs foundation reinforcement cages; wires control cabinets, programs controllers and monitor cards, conducts annual inspections and monitor testing, and other duties as assigned.

Must have a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • 12 mos. electrical trg. &/or exp. to include troubleshooting/repair of electrical circuits (e.g., operation of a multi-meter, wire splicing); valid driver’s license required.

Supplemental Information

ALL ANSWERS TO THE SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS MUST BE SUPPORTED BY THE WORK EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION PROVIDED ON YOUR CIVIL SERVICE APPLICATION. 

This position will require you to take and pass a skills assessment and structured (scored) interview.

 All bargaining unit and exempt new hires to ODOT must serve a one-year probationary period.

This position is overtime eligible per FLSA Standards. 

If this position is filled internally, the wage rate will be determined under the contract.

The final applicant accepted for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis before appointment to test for illegal drug use. Medical marijuana is prohibited as a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment, per sections 3719.01 & 3719.41 of the Ohio revised code.
