About Us

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities.  We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better.  It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.

Make A Real Difference In Young Lives

Why This Role Matters

At The Salvation Army (Salvos) Youth Services, we believe every young person deserves to be seen, heard, and supported. Our programs offer more than just a safety net — they provide a foundation for transformation. Through safe accommodation, holistic case management, life skills programs, and community outreach, we walk alongside vulnerable youth during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.

Our hubs are more than just service points — they are safe havens. Places where young people feel believed in, valued, and respected. This is where healing begins, and futures are rebuilt.

About The Role

We’re searching for a compassionate and committed Youth IAP Worker who is ready to be a trusted first point of contact for young people experiencing crisis. In this role, you’ll provide initial assessments, outreach, and interim support, especially for those who may be disconnected from traditional systems of care.

Reporting to the Youth Services Coordinator, this is a full-time (max term) opportunity, contracted until May 2026, based in Sunshine, VIC.

Compensation is in accordance with SCHADS Award Level 5.

What You'll Be Doing

In this vital front-line role, you will:

  • Provide compassionate assessments, connecting young people with emergency accommodation, food, hygiene, and essential health support
  • Offer trauma-informed, person-centred care that builds trust, affirms dignity, and supports young people on their path to independence
  • Engage with young people sleeping rough or disengaged from services through assertive outreach and strong community partnerships
  • Help maintain safe, welcoming youth hubs where young people feel seen, supported, and encouraged through consistent presence and practical support
  • Work collaboratively within a passionate and reflective team, contributing to continuous service improvement and innovative approaches to youth support

Who We’re Looking For

You bring empathy, resilience, and a deep commitment to supporting young people. You'll also have:

  • A tertiary qualification in social sciences, welfare, or a related field (degree preferred)
  • A current Working with Children Check
  • A valid Victorian Driver’s Licence

Why You’ll Love Working With Us

At The Salvation Army, purpose meets opportunity. As a registered not-for-profit, we offer meaningful benefits that go beyond the basics:

  • Salary packaging of up to $15,900 (tax-free) + $2,650 meals & entertainment
  • Flexible work conditions and paid parental leave (12 weeks)
  • Access to health, fitness, and financial benefits
  • Up to 8 weeks’ leave per year with our purchase leave scheme
  • 5 days of paid volunteer leave to give back through a TSA program
  • A supportive, inclusive culture where your voice matters
  • Ongoing training, career development, and genuine opportunities to grow
  • A chance to build a purpose-driven career that leaves a lasting impact

Your Impact Starts Here

If you’re ready to be part of something bigger — to support young people with heart, skill, and commitment — we want to hear from you.

Submit your resume and a cover letter sharing how your values and experience align with this meaningful role.

Together, we can create a brighter future. One young person at a time.

The Salvation Army is an Equal Opportunity Employer who provides an inclusive work environment and embraces the diverse talent of its people. We value people of all cultures, languages, capacities, sexual orientations, gender identities and/or expressions. The Salvation Army is a child safe organisation and is committed to protecting children and young people from harm. All child facing roles will require the successful completion of a Working with Children Check.
