The Assistant Director of Student Engagement has direct responsibility for managing programs and providing leadership to the following major functional areas: Student Organizations, Leadership Development, and Service & Volunteerism within the Office of Student Engagement. This role serves in a variety of administrative capacities, including policy approval and implementation, assessment efforts, and training and staff supervision. This position will also co-advise Campus Activities Board. In addition, all members of the Student Engagement team work collaboratively on most large-scale programs including, but not limited to, Week of Welcome and the Campus Involvement & Leadership Awards.
Co-Curricular Programming: Oversee and implement co-curricular programming and events to address the needs and interests of the student body, including large-scale campus events, keynote student events, campus activities and traditions, and OneUSF initiatives. Provide guidance and support with events for responsible areas under OSE oversight. Assist with department goals and collaborating on department-wide events and initiatives. Work with Assistant Director of Residential Education for night, evening and weekend programming, as well as collaborate with Student Programs Manager and Student Government on programs and initiatives. Collaborate with colleagues across all three USF campuses to align existing and new programs, services, and initiatives with OneUSF, including Homecoming Week and USF Week.
Administrative/Leadership: Supervise coordinators of student engagement, including providing regular support, feedback, training, development, and evaluation. Work with the coordinators to ensure goals are met within all programming efforts. Oversee department assessment efforts, including collaborative OneUSF assessment initiatives. Work collaboratively with the Assistant Vice President to complete all budget requests, and coordinate the spending plan and management of the Student Engagement budget. Work with Marketing & Communications Officer for marketing and outreach for Student Engagement. Lead all aspects of student leader hiring, training, and evaluation. Supervise student leaders in their work scheduling and providing development to other student leaders. Work collaboratively with other team members to implement evaluation and assessment of the student employment program.
CAB Advising & Supervision: Serve as primary advisor to the Campus Activities Board. Provide mentorship and guidance to student leaders within the organization on Campus Activities Board operations, conflict resolution, leadership, and teamwork. Select, supervise, and evaluate students who serve as student leaders for Student Engagement. Additionally, advise the student Cultural Event Coordinators under CAB.
Student Organization Oversight: Work with coordinators to plan and direct all aspects of operations related to Registered Student Organization advising. Provide training, direction, and instruction to other team members on the advisement of student organizations. Collaborate with colleagues at all USF campuses to update and implement regulations, policies, and procedures related to student organizations. Provide guidance to student organization leaders and advisors. This includes training on policies and procedures, personal and professional development, and guidance to best lead their organization. Assist students as they establish new organizations by providing training and supporting recruitment efforts. Responsible for conducting at least one large scale student organization training session annually. Support student organization recruitment efforts through the coordination of The Bullpen, our student involvement fair, each fall and spring semester. Assist in the management of student organization events, from room reservations to guidance on event planning. Work collaboratively with event management personnel to ensure University event requirements are met.
Leadership Programs & Service/Volunteerism Oversight: Plan and direct all aspects of operations related to Leadership Programming. Lead other team members on the implementation of leadership programs. Create programs as needed to enhance the discussion of leadership across campus, i.e. for student organization, student staff, and student government. Coordinate the annual Campus Involvement and Leadership Awards. Manage the awards and recognition process and lead collaborative efforts to ensure event planning and management is completed. Accountable for direction and leadership of all aspects of Service & Volunteerism programs. Provide training, direction, and instruction to other team members to implement operations of functional area.
MINIMUM: Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field with a minimum of 4 years of experience in a student affairs position within higher education; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED: Preferred: Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Affairs, or related field. At least two years of experience supervising student or professional staff.
Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree.
