Job Title:
Laboratory Technician Iii
Job Purpose:
Biosafety and biocontainment support role for the University of Wyoming Biocontainment Facility / Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory. Reports to the Biosafety and Biocontainment Manager.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
- Biowaste management including select agent and tier I destruction
- Select agent program document preparation, revision and training (BSL3 and aBSL3)
- Escort of contractors
- Support aBSL2 and aBSL3 animal maintenance
- Select agent diagnostic and research support
- Assist with BSL3 level animal autopsies
- Biocontainment-related facility support to include monitoring of effluent decontamination system and HEPA filters, use of autoclaves and chemical decontamination equipment
- Security support
- Clearance and training to become Alternate Responsible Official (Tier 1 Select Agent Clearance)
- Inventory management.
Supplemental Functions:
Participation in research projects in BSL2 or BSL3 levels.
Competencies:
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Able to develop and follow detailed protocols
- Able to train students, staff and faculty in biosafety practices
- Detailed record keeping
- Function effectively in a team-based environment.
Work Location:
This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: 2 years work-related experience
Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
This position has been deemed essential as addressed in the University of Wyoming’s Employee Handbook. Employees in essential positions may be required to work during emergency closures and winter closure based on the nature of their job duties and the reasons for the closure.
Desired Qualifications:
Two or more years’ experience working in BSL2 and or BSL3 biocontainment in a research and or diagnostic laboratory. Experience supporting animal autopsy procedures. Experience working with research animals. Masters degree in a relevant discipline.
Work Authorization Requirements:
The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States. Sponsorship for H-1B work authorization or work visa is not available for this position.
