Our Bowmanville Extensions project will bring commuter rail service to Durham Region, extending east from our existing Durham College Oshawa GO Station through to Bowmanville. This progressive contract model has the objective of building an enhanced commuter rail network to meet the corporate mandate and business objectives while adhering to Metrolinx’s highest standards for safety, efficiency, and legal/regulatory/policy compliance, while delivering excellent customer experience. The Manager will be responsible for specific elements of infrastructure required to support the capital build of the program.
- Manage consultants, contractors and other vendors to assist with the delivery of the project, including resolving any disputes or performance issues
- Lead the team by example by following best practices with respect to project management, and controlling scope, budget, schedule and quality
- Analyze work activities to identify opportunities for efficiencies and recommend solutions.
- Consult with provincial ministries, municipalities, external authorities, Class 1 railway partners, private companies and the public to facilitate the advancement of capital projects.
- Coach and motivate team members to achieve goals and project deliverables
- Integrate multiple corporate requirements into projects, including technical design, environmental assessment conditions, community and municipal commitments, Passenger Charter, design excellence, and property acquisition conditions
- Monitor project work to warrant that the proper protection is followed in accordance with railway operating rules.
- Foster a safe and healthy work environment; ensure project teams, contractors and trades comply with health, safety and environmental standards that meet or exceed legislated requirements.
- This position requires travel to site during construction at least twice a week, and will require working out of a site office located in Durham Region within the next 6 months.
- Completion of a degree or diploma in applied science, engineering, construction, railway engineering or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
- Demonstrated project management experience related to the design, and construction and assurance of heavy passenger rail transit systems in a brown field and/or urban environments
- A valid Ontario Class G driver’s license is required to travel to various site locations, meetings, operational facilities, etc.
- Valid Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) license recognized by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), CET (Certified Engineering Technologist), C.Tech (Certified Technician) or equivalent qualifications.
- Completion of qualifications in the Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) and the Metrolinx Personal Track Safety (PTS) course is an asset.
- Knowledge and experience working in railway corridor infrastructure and related construction
- Understands theories, principles and practices of civil and railway construction in an active railway corridor.
- Problem solving and analytical skills to evaluate and address contractor and supplier performance issues and recommend plans for improvement; to evaluate and address program impediments with the potential to disrupt or jeopardize the project and/or corporate objectives
- Knowledge of System Engineering and Safety Assurance processes is an asset
