PR Manager
Fathom.com
Office
London, United Kingdom
Full Time
Fathom is seeking an ambitious PR professional to join us at an exciting stage of scale-up. This is not a typical media-centric PR role. It’s broader, deeper and more strategic. Our business, proposition and scientific spokespeople are purpose-driven and recognized as world-leading experts in hydrology, climate risk and flood modelling.
You will own Fathom’s global PR strategy and execution, managing budget, technology, suppliers and agencies. You will advise and contribute to content, field initiatives and work closely with our leadership, sales, content and tech teams, who operate at the intersection of academia, insurance, capital markets, engineering, public sector and international development.
This role is perfect for a B2B PR strategist from an agency background looking to move client-side or an in-house PR/media professional with enterprise software experience seeking a highly strategic role. Reporting to the CMO, you will lead PR from the front, owning a global strategy in a truly purposeful market space. You’ll collaborate with some of the world’s most published and media-in-demand climate and flood scientists.
The role is permanent and full-time. You can be based anywhere, provided you can commit to 1–2 days a week in our Bristol office (where most of our team are based) or our City of London office. Occasional travel for media, conferences, and exhibitions will also be part of the role.
Accountabilities:
- Global PR strategy & execution: Define objectives, strategy, and tactics; manage external PR agencies, secure leadership buy-in; and ensure alignment with vertical marketing strategies across target sectors.
- Press releases & announcements: Lead the development of press releases for product launches, partnerships, research publications, and new tools or campaigns, ensuring consistency with Fathom’s brand and positioning.
- Media relations: Own global media engagement, spanning editorial, advertorial, and thought leadership. Define media policy, establish guidelines, and build and maintain a high-quality target media list. Proactively nurture strong relationships with journalists, editors, and publications.
- Media pitching & editorial calendars: Drive proactive media pitching, manage Fathom’s editorial calendar and collaborate with industry associations to secure editorial opportunities that amplify visibility and thought leadership.
- Campaigns & measurement: Deliver multi-channel PR campaigns that communicate Fathom’s vision to media, influencers, analysts, academia, government bodies, and financial regulators. Measure and report impact clearly, demonstrating both commercial outcomes and brand value.
- Content creation: Partner with the Content Manager to identify market trends and emerging themes, creating differentiated content that resonates across target audiences—including customers, partners, analysts, and regulators.
- Academic authority leverage: Translate Fathom’s scientific research, university partnerships, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications into compelling narratives for audiences beyond academia.
- Spokespeople & Speaker Bureau: Support and develop Fathom’s spokespeople, including scientists and technical leaders, for conferences, media interviews, and virtual events. Provide media training, preparation, and tailored strategies to maximize their impact.
- Industry awards & recognition: Identify and prioritize awards that build credibility, lead submission processes, manage attendance, and communicate achievements effectively.
- Budget ownership: Manage the PR budget strategically across tools, agencies, campaigns, and resources, ensuring efficiency and maximum return.
What You Will Need:
Experience / Skills:
- 5+ years in B2B PR or communications, ideally in enterprise software, data, or tech with long sales cycles.
- Strong core media relations skills, including international experience if applicable (particularly USA and APAC).
- Experience developing and executing PR strategies in small, fast-growing tech teams or division-level in larger organizations.
- Experience targeting senior decision-makers in complex enterprise sectors such as insurance, banking/capital markets, the public sector or engineering.
- Multi-channel campaign expertise across diverse audiences, geographies, and industry verticals.
- Budget and supplier management skills.
- Understanding of climate change, flood risk, and/or environmental risk is highly desirable.
Personal Attributes:
- Thrives in a complex landscape spanning scientific, technical, business, and policy domains.
- Confident in pushing beyond traditional PR boundaries.
- Disciplined in selectively prioritizing media opportunities.
