Minimum Qualifications:

- Experience in state government or leading policy strategy for corporations or third-party organizations.
- Experience with staffing and managing executives, with excellent leadership and collaboration skills.
- Ability to integrate public policy with business strategy and corporate development.
- Ability to track records of successful regulatory agreements and policy achievement within the New York state legislative and executive branches.

Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team works with policymakers, regulators, and third-party stakeholders to navigate the tests of public policy. We are advisors who analyze and react to political developments, working to advance Google's mission by shaping the policy landscape at the state and local levels.
As the lead Policy Strategist for New York and North East states, you will be at the forefront of shaping technology policy in one of the most dynamic regions in the country. You will be responsible for developing and executing sophisticated legislative and regulatory strategies on a wide range of issues impacting Google, including artificial intelligence, data privacy, content moderation, energy, competition, cybersecurity, privacy, and the future of work. This is not a traditional lobbying role; it requires an understanding of the legislative process and the ability to engage in detailed policy analysis, redline legislation, and discuss directly with policymakers and their staff to achieve our objectives. You will be expected to know the levers of government and how to use them to protect and advance an open and innovative internet.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $182,000-$249,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Monitor, analyze, and interpret state legislation and regulations primarily in New York and across other Northeast states, with a focus on emerging technology policy issues such as AI, data privacy, content moderation, and energy.
- Develop and execute comprehensive policy strategies to influence legislative and regulatory outcomes, including drafting legislative language, preparing expert testimony, and creating detailed policy briefs.
- Engage directly in legislative and regulatory with elected officials, committee staff, and executive agency personnel to advocate for Google's official policy positions.
- Serve as the internal expert, advising business and product teams on the implications of emerging state policies and ensuring products and operations can grow in the region.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key policy opinion formers, trade associations, and third-party allies to support shared regulatory goals.
