The Team:

The Department of Health Tasmania is in the final stages of merging the hospital based pathology services to a new Statewide Pathology Service. This small but highly skilled team delivers consistent, high-quality diagnostic services across Tasmania with agility, collaboration, and a strong sense of purpose.

Serving communities from urban centres to remote regions, the team combines local insight with statewide consistency to meet the needs of clinicians and patients. Close coordination, clear communication, and a commitment to excellence underpin their work, supporting clinical decision-making, improving patient outcomes, and upholding the highest standards of safety and quality.

The Executive Director – Statewide Pathology will guide this team through a pivotal period of change and growth. This role is central to shaping the service’s merger, strategic direction, fostering a positive culture, and ensuring the team stays connected and empowered. With a focus on integration, innovation, and continuous improvement, the Executive Director will lead the development of a sustainable, high-performing pathology service that delivers real value to Tasmania’s health system.

The Role:

The Executive Director – Statewide Pathology will lead the development and integration of a unified pathology service across Tasmania. The role provides strategic leadership for the establishment and ongoing delivery of a unified statewide pathology service, including setting the service’s direction, overseeing financial management, and fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

The Executive Director will lead the transition to a consolidated statewide network, integrating hospital-managed providers into a single, high-performing service, while implementing standardised processes, financial management, performance measures, and reporting systems to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent service delivery across all regions.

The Executive Director will develop and maintain a robust clinical governance framework that promotes evidence-based practice, continuous learning, and system-wide quality improvement, working closely with stakeholders to drive patient safety initiatives and improve clinical outcomes. 

The Executive Director will champion cultural transformation by embedding the values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (CARE), attracting, developing, and retaining a skilled workforce to build capability and engagement for current and future service needs.

You Will Need:

  • Extensive clinical practice expertise and experience in clinical governance, quality improvement, financial management and implementing accountability networks with a broad understanding of contemporary health service delivery issues.
  • Proven high-level management experience in an allied health professional discipline and the capacity to provide professional leadership, vision and a contemporary approach to health professional management.
  • High level experience in resource management, together with the ability to develop and implement strategies that monitor service delivery effectiveness and efficiency; and the ability to analyse complex issues, formulate new approaches and develop comprehensive implementation and improvement strategies.

Details Of Appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $186,049 to $195,566 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022

Salary Packaging:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Satisfactory completion of an approved allied health professional *course of study at a recognised tertiary institutions and registered with the relevant National Board or, in the case of self-regulated allied health professions, full membership/eligible for membership with the relevant professional association. * Appropriate course of study-Allied Health Professional Course
  • Working with Vulnerable People Registration (WWVPR) – NDIS
