Classification Summary:
Provides institutional leadership in creating and maintaining a culture whereby institutional decisions are made based on evidence of student learning and institutional effectiveness. The position is responsible for providing assistance, training and development in assessment practices; coordinating assessment initiatives and activities across campus, and as appropriate, system-wide.

Classification Standard Duties:
Provides leadership and training in academic and non-academic student learning assessment, and other outcomes assessment, including evaluation and review of assessment practices. Coordinates assessment activities across the NMSU system campuses as appropriate and uphold a vision for unified cultures of assessment both campus- and system-wide. Directs the institution in developing and maintaining meaningful assessment practices, including academic and non-academic learning and operational assessment that positively impacts student learning and provides quality assurance to external entities of overall institutional effectiveness and continuous improvement. Documents how evidence of achievement on outcomes is used to improve programs and ensure the institution is realizing its mission. Represents NMSU locally, at the state-level, and nationally in the assessment field.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, and coordinates strategic assessment programs, projects, and activities campus wide. Develops and establishes operating goals, policies, and procedures for assessment, as appropriate. Coordinates all assessment and institutional effectiveness activities needed for compliance purposes and for Higher Learning Commission (HLC) accreditation and other college-and/or program-level specialized accreditation.
Recommends, implements, and administers methods and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency. Supports continuous academic program assessment (curricular and co-curricular activities) and improvement of student learning through consultation, mentoring and hands-on training. Supports the ongoing development and implementation of comprehensive outcomes assessment programs for all academic and administrative units that support the goals the university's strategic plan.Interprets assessment findings and prepares an annual assessment report to summarize such findings, with particular emphasis on the quality of the assessment efforts and findings that influence institutional decision making and policy development. Promotes internal and external communication of assessment results. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
