The Health Science Awards Manager will provide scientific and administrative oversight for research programs funded by the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP), which supports innovative, high-impact biomedical research to address critical gaps for military Service Members, Veterans, and the broader public.
In this role, you will manage the full lifecycle of research awards—from application review and negotiation to monitoring, compliance, and closeout—within autoimmune, genetic disorders, and infectious diseases. You will collaborate with investigators, regulatory agencies, and DoD sponsors to ensure that funded research is scientifically rigorous, compliant with federal regulations, and aligned with CDMRP program priorities.
To be eligible for this position, candidates must possess U.S. Citizenship without the need for sponsorship, both now and in the future. Applicants without proof of U.S. Citizenship will not be considered due to the position’s security clearance requirements.
The Job Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Oversee the lifecycle of research awards, including negotiation, monitoring, compliance, and closeout.
- Serve as the technical representative for autoimmune disorders, genetic disorders, and infectious diseases during award negotiations through award closeout.
- Provide scientific expertise to support technical evaluation of proposed and ongoing research in autoimmune disorders, genetic conditions, or infectious diseases.
- Review award proposals and ongoing research for scientific rigor, feasibility, and potential overlap with other federally funded projects to support programmatic alignment and mitigate duplication.
- Monitor award progress, review technical reports, and assess relevance of publications, patents, and clinical outcomes.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including human subjects, animal research, biosafety, and FDA-regulated products.
- Track award progress against milestones, review annual and final reports, and evaluate scientific output.
- Track and report award outcomes, such as publications and patents.
- Identify key research accomplishments and prepare written products and oral briefings highlighting significant research outcomes.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for investigators, acting as liaison with contracting, regulatory offices, and DoD sponsors.
- Represent CDMRP in working groups, peer review panels, and scientific meetings.
- Present updates and briefings to CDMRP, USAMRDC, and DoD leadership.
Required Qualifications
- PhD or Master’s in immunology, genetics, microbiology, virology, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in grants management or 5+ years of biomedical research.
- Familiarity with infectious disease and/or autoimmune/genetic disorder research.
- Experience with DoD grant systems (eBRAP, EGS) strongly preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, and scientific writing skills
