Job Description

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Officer – Food & Beverage is responsible for maintaining and repairing all equipment, fixtures, and infrastructure across the restaurants and food service outlets operated by the Fredley Group of Companies. The role ensures all facilities and kitchen equipment are in excellent working condition, comply with health and safety standards, and support uninterrupted day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of kitchen equipment (e.g., ovens, fryers, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, etc.) and HVAC systems.
  • Perform timely repairs of malfunctioning equipment, plumbing, electrical systems, lighting, and restaurant fixtures.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and repair records for each location.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from restaurant/store managers to minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate with vendors or contractors for specialized repairs when needed.
  • Ensure all outlets are operationally ready and safe before daily opening times.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities meet food safety, health, and fire safety standards.
  • Maintain compliance with local building codes and health regulations.
  • Identify potential hazards and correct them proactively.
  • Track and manage inventory of tools, spare parts, and maintenance supplies.
  • Recommend procurement of replacement parts or new equipment when necessary.
  • Assist in asset tagging and maintenance of kitchen infrastructure records.
  • Support fit-out, renovation, or expansion projects by assisting in equipment installation and site readiness.
  • Work with the project team to ensure proper handover of new restaurant locations.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Electromechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering is typically required. Alternatively, a vocational diploma with a strong focus on electromechanical systems and a proven track record of experience may be considered.
  • Certifications in electrical safety, refrigeration, HVAC, or plumbing are highly desirable and can set a candidate apart.
  • The ideal candidate should have at least 3-5 years of hands-on experience with both electrical and mechanical systems, particularly those found in commercial kitchens and restaurants. This includes extensive knowledge of:
  • A strong ability to diagnose and repair complex issues is crucial.
  • The candidate must have an excellent understanding of and commitment to safety protocols and regulations. This includes knowledge of electrical codes, fire safety standards, and food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP). They should be able to perform work in a safe manner, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure all equipment is in compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Effective communication skills are essential for this role.
  • HVAC-R systems: Air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment (e.g., walk-in freezers, chillers).
  • Kitchen equipment: Ovens, grills, fryers, dishwashers, and food processing machines.
  • Electrical systems: Troubleshooting circuits, wiring, and control panels.
  • Plumbing: Water supply lines, drainage, and grease traps.
  • Building maintenance: General knowledge of structural repairs, carpentry, and painting.
