Position Summary
The Data Solution Architect is a highly analytical and technical leader whose primary responsibility is to architect, optimize, and oversee the creation of a first-class data asset for SMB target market and expansion analysis. This role is tasked with transforming our existing Azure Fabric platform into a standardized, high-performance analytical engine. The Architect will lead a multi-functional team (Engineers, Report Developer, Analysts) to deliver accurate, strategic market penetration and benchmarking insights.

Success Looks Like
- Within 3 Months: The existing Azure Fabric/Spark pipelines are thoroughly reviewed, and a documented standardization roadmap for code quality and modularity is implemented. Data ingestion latency is measurably reduced through technical optimization.
- Within 6 Months: A foundational data model is designed and deployed that supports granular aggregation and reliable benchmarking across client verticals and business sizes, directly enabling the new strategic product offering.
- Within 1 Year: The platform architecture is scaled to efficiently support the goal of benchmarking performance across our entire client base, solidifying our reputation for superior market intelligence.
- Ongoing: The Architect champions a culture of engineering excellence, ensuring every data solution provides maximum analytical utility and minimizes cloud expenditure.
Objectives
- Drive Optimization & Standardization: Conduct a deep technical review and re-engineer existing PySpark/Scala pipelines in Azure Fabric for maximum efficiency, maintainability, and cost effectiveness.
- Lead Data Asset Creation: Architect new, complex data models capable of reliable cross-vertical and size-based aggregation, directly enabling the company's strategic benchmarking capabilities.
- Technical & Team Leadership: Provide direct technical guidance, code review, and project management for a team of Data Engineers and Report Developers, and oversee the final analytical requirements of the Business Analyst team.
- System Scalability: Ensure the underlying platform can reliably ingest, cleanse, and enrich diverse, fragmented sales data (e.g., QBO) and third-party data to support rapid scaling of the client base.
- Deliver Customer Solutions: Ensure the architectural vision directly supports the monthly deliverable of strategic target market and expansion analysis for our SMB client base, navigating data sparsity with justifiable, robust analytical assumptions.
Competencies
- Expert-level proficiency with cloud-based big data platforms, specifically Microsoft Azure Fabric (or Synapse/Databricks) and Apache Spark.
- Deep experience in performance tuning and cost optimization of complex Spark jobs and data warehousing structures.
- Proven track record of successfully standardizing and modernizing existing data platforms and implementing robust DataOps best practices (CI/CD, version control, testing).
- Advanced Analytical Modeling: Demonstrated ability to design sophisticated data models to support advanced aggregation, time-series analysis, and complex benchmarking logic.
- Strong programming expertise in Python/PySpark or Scala for data transformation and optimization.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams through architectural and engineering challenges.
Education And Experience
- BS/MS Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a highly quantitative field (e.g., Applied Mathematics, Data Science).
- 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering or Data Architecture, with at least 2 years in a Lead/Architectural role focused on analytical data delivery.
- Demonstrated experience with complex data projects requiring significant data cleansing, imputation, and enrichment with third-party datasets (e.g., census, demographic data).
