Job Description

The Team

Engineering Enablement teams are the custodians of systems, tools, patterns and practices that help engineering teams build better software, together.

Through our Developer Experience and Release Engineering teams, we own the platforms, tools, and practices that remove friction from the software development lifecycle—from code creation to production deployment. We seek to improve productivity drivers, measured through our Developer Experience Index, while maintaining quality and reliability standards.

Engineering Enablement is part of the wider Engineering Platforms team, and we aim to accelerate SEEK's speed to market by eliminating developer friction through:

  • Platform Excellence: Maintaining and evolving core development infrastructure (Buildkite, GitHub, ArgoCD, Backstage) that enables fast, reliable software delivery.
  • Innovation Adoption: Pioneering and safely integrating cutting-edge tools, including AI-assisted coding technologies, that multiply developer capability.
  • Experience Optimization: Continuously measuring and improving all aspects of the developer journey, from documentation and onboarding to deployment and monitoring.

The Role

This Senior Staff Engineer role is a technical specialist role and senior member within our SEEK Group Engineering teams. As a Senior Staff Engineer you will act as a sub-domain subject matter expert, with the primary focus of partnering with Engineering Managers, Heads of Engineering, Architecture, and Heads of Product to drive the sub-domain strategy.

Day-to-day, you will work collaboratively with your team management peers (Engineering Managers), providing technical guidance and specialist knowledge of codebases/systems/tools/platforms and support the resolution of technical issues.

As a Senior Staff Engineer you will advocates for technical best practices that will support the delivery of software. You will be accountable for advocating clean, scalable, testable code, ensuring high development practices across your sub-domain. Line

Key Accountabilities

  • Define and drive sub‑domain technical strategy and roadmap.
  • Ensure systems are well‑architected, high‑performing, and aligned with SEEK’s standards.
  • Partner with technical stakeholders to plan, prioritise, and deliver complex initiatives.
  • Act as the key technical escalation point for critical issues and incidents.
  • Uplift code quality, security, and engineering practices across teams.
  • Mentor Staff Engineers and grow technical leadership capability.
  • Attract, onboard, and retain top engineering talent.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience designing, developing, and maintaining cloud‑first applications and APIs.
  • End‑to‑end ownership of services, systems, or platforms.
  • Strong CI/CD experience with process improvement track record.
  • Skilled in secure coding and writing well‑tested, maintainable software.
  • Experience with logging, monitoring, and alerting for operational health.
  • Ability to introduce and embed practices such as TDD, BDD, and Clean Code.
  • Confident in negotiating technical trade‑offs with senior stakeholders.
  • Experienced mentor and capability‑builder for engineering teams.
  • Comfortable with operational support duties, including on‑call rotations.
