About The Role

We are seeking a Software Controls and Integration Engineer to join our team supporting the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, TN.

Operating at 85 MW, High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) is the highest flux reactor-based source of neutrons for research in the United States, and it provides one of the highest steady-state neutron fluxes of any research reactor in the world. The thermal and cold neutrons produced by HFIR are used to study physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, and biology. The Research Reactors Division (RRD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) operates the HFIR. HFIR is undergoing major plant control systems upgrades over the next 10 years to replace ageing and obsolescence systems, components, and equipment to support long term operations.

Responsibilities

  • This position will be matrixed to HFIR Nuclear Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Group of the Systems Engineering Section within the RRD.
  • Responsible for the design, development, implementation of the division’s software-based Industrial Control Systems (ICS) throughout the entire system development life cycle, including configuration control, software quality assurance, and cyber security.
  • May require a RAD Worker II training.
  • Provide technical support to operations, and maintenance, and perform systems analysis.

Requirements

  • Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and 5+ years of relevant experience. Additional, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • 5+ years of experience with electrical and instrumentation and control.
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA control systems software including Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, GE iFIX and Visual Basic.
  • Experience with servers, networking components, common protocols, and databases..
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and interpret requirements and technical specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability in hardware/software integration.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
  • Knowledge And Experience With:

  • 10CFR830 – Nuclear Safety Management
  • DOE O 414.1D – Quality Assurance
  • ASME NQA-1 – Quality Assurance Requirements for Nuclear Facility Applications
  • FISMA 2002 – Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002
  • NIST Special Publication (SP) 800 Series – Computer Security.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with virtual machine and thin client technology.
  • Experience with administration of historians, web-based development, and SQL databases.
  • Experience With Autocad.

  • Experience with cybersecurity / firewalls.
