Associate Director / Director, Lab Operations

Position

We are seeking a highly-motivated, proactive individual to build and lead the lab operations team as Manifold Bio pursues the ambitious mission of redefining therapeutics discovery. This position impacts all operational aspects of the company and requires thoughtful long-term vision and strategic planning. You will own all aspects of lab operations, facilities management, and IT infrastructure while empowering our scientific team to safely perform cutting-edge R&D. Working cross-functionally with R&D, finance, and leadership teams, you will help Manifold make optimal decisions regarding lab space, equipment, SOPs, and technology systems. As we scale, you will be instrumental in collaborating across departments to plan future lab expansions and space optimization that meet everyone's evolving needs. The ideal candidate combines extensive lab operations experience with facilities management and basic IT support capabilities, plus exceptional collaboration skills and a strong ability to connect with scientists.

Responsibilities

• Manage the lab operations team and coordinate with external consultants to establish and maintain safe and reliable lab operations
• Support purchasing, vendor relationships, and maintenance of lab instrumentation and other CapEx
• Ensure EHS compliance, manage waste requirements and maintain safety record keeping
• Work closely with scientific team to understand research needs and evolve the space and operations
• Oversee day-to-day facility operations including HVAC, utilities, and general building maintenance
• Plan for future lab space needs and coordinate potential lab moves or expansions
• Manage relationships with building management, contractors, and service providers
• Maintain and troubleshoot basic lab IT infrastructure including computers, printers, and network connectivity
• Coordinate with IT vendors for equipment procurement, setup, and maintenance
• Support scientists with basic technical issues to minimize research disruption

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree and 5+ years of experience in lab operations (biotech/pharma)
• Experience implementing operations that are compliant with local, state, and federal laws and regulations
• Pragmatic and efficient problem solver and decision maker
• Experience managing purchasing/procurement processes and systems
• Basic facilities management experience or strong willingness to learn
• Comfort with basic IT troubleshooting and vendor coordination
• Self-motivated, highly organized, proactive, and able to juggle multiple ongoing priorities
• Experience creating and implementing new lab operation procedures and protocols (SOPs)
• Process-driven and detail-oriented, and good at inspiring others to follow procedures
• Able to build strong partnerships/relationships (with outside vendors and the internal team)
• A genuine passion for science, developing medicines, and enabling teams
• Collaborative, curious, and flexible with strong communication skills, both written and oral
• Skilled with relevant software tools (Google Drive, Microsoft Excel, etc.)
