Company Description

Syngenta Seeds is one of the world’s largest developers and producers of seed for farmers, commercial growers, retailers and small seed companies. Syngenta seeds improve the quality and yields of crops. High-quality seeds ensure better and more productive crops, which is why farmers invest in them. Advanced seeds help mitigate risks such as disease and drought and allow farmers to grow food using less land, less water and fewer inputs.

Syngenta Seeds brings farmers more vigorous, stronger, resistant plants, including innovative hybrid varieties and biotech crops that can thrive even in challenging growing conditions.

Syngenta Seeds is headquartered in the United States.

Job Description

In our quest to harness the potential of plants to feed the world, we seek a business analyst to help us build a laboratory information management system that serves as the foundation for our lab digitalization. As a business analyst for Syngenta's LIMS implementation project, you will be responsible for eliciting, analyzing, and documenting the requirements and specifications of the laboratory information management system (LIMS) for our seed research labs.

You will work closely with the LIMS implementation team, the LIMS vendor (LabVantage), the IT team, and the laboratory staff to ensure that the LIMS meets the needs and expectations of the end-users and the business objectives. You will also facilitate the testing, training, and deployment of the LIMS, as well as provide ongoing support and improvement suggestions.

Accountabilities:

  • Conduct stakeholder analysis and interviews to understand the current and future state of the genotyping laboratory processes, data flows, and pain points.
  • Translate the business needs and user stories into functional and non-functional requirements for the LIMS, using appropriate tools and techniques such as use cases, user interface mockups, data models, and process diagrams.
  • Review and validate the requirements with the stakeholders and obtain their approval and sign-off.
  • Collaborate with the LIMS vendor and the IT team to ensure that the requirements are clearly understood and implemented according to the agreed scope and timeline.
  • Coordinate and participate in the testing of the LIMS, including unit testing, integration testing, user acceptance testing, and performance testing.
  • Develop and deliver training materials and sessions for the LIMS users and administrators.
  • Support the deployment and rollout of the LIMS, including data migration, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor and evaluate the LIMS performance and user feedback, and propose enhancements and bug fixes as needed.
  • Document and maintain the LIMS requirements, specifications, test cases, user manuals, and best practices.
  • Communicate and report the progress, issues, and risks of the LIMS project to the relevant stakeholders and management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, ideally in molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, plant physiology, or other seed research-related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a business analyst or a similar role in IT projects, preferably in the biotechnology or life sciences domain.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality requirements and specifications for complex IT systems, preferably LIMS or other laboratory applications.
  • Strong knowledge of research-related laboratory workflows, data standards, and quality requirements.
  • Experience implementing commercial off-the-shelf LIMS products; LabVantage experience preferred.
  • Proficient in using various tools and techniques for requirements elicitation, analysis, documentation, and validation, such as interviews, workshops, surveys, prototyping, modeling, and testing.
  • Experience working with vendors and IT teams, and managing expectations and relationships with multiple stakeholders, preferably in LIMS implementations.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodology and project management tools.
  • Basic understanding of IT infrastructure, architecture, and security aspects of LIMS.
