About This Role
Dow Consumer Solutions (DCS), a division of The Dow Company, is seeking a Technical Service & Development (TS&D) Scientist to join our Greater China Consumer & Electronics (C&E) TS&D team, based in Shanghai. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to work in close collaboration with Sales, Marketing, and Product Development (PD) functions to engage directly with electronics customers throughout China. The successful candidate will play a critical part in supporting business growth, driving innovation within the region, and influencing C&E global innovation and business growth.
Responsibilities:
- Support Business Growth
- Promote both existing and newly developed products—primarily silicone-based solutions such as thermal interface materials, adhesives, encapsulants, gels, and conformal coatings—by specifying them for targeted applications in the Computing, Communication, and Consumer (3C) markets as well as Industrial Electronics.
- Provide comprehensive on-site technical support to customers, including facilitating the proper application of our products and developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure optimal operational efficiency and product integration.
- Identify and resolve technical issues encountered by customers during product use by designing, conducting, and analyzing laboratory experiments to develop effective solutions.
- Manage and resolve product quality concerns by collaborating closely with internal commercial and manufacturing teams, ensuring that customer issues are addressed promptly and effectively.
- Innovation
- Engage proactively with customers to identify unmet needs and translate these insights into critical requirements, collaborating with cross-functional internal teams to initiate, develop, and commercialize innovative projects and products.
- Develop and maintain advanced internal capabilities to simulate customer applications, thoroughly investigate and define material requirements, and provide robust technical support for product development.
- Demonstrate leadership in global technology and innovation platforms by collaborating across regions and multifunctional teams, driving and enhancing global innovation to address diverse customer needs and accelerate market impact.
- Technical documentation: Prepare high-quality technical documentation, including comprehensive technical reports, product data sheets, application guidelines, and external presentations. Deliver professional speeches and conduct technical training sessions for both internal and external audiences as required.
- Safety: Serve as the Environmental, Health & Safety advocate; ensure understanding and adherence to policies and procedures, and serve as a model for best safety practices, habits, and behaviors.
Desired Qualifications
- Education: Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a closely related scientific discipline.
- Technical Experience: A minimum of 10 years of professional experience, including at least 8 years within the electronics industry in roles focused on application engineering, technical services, or product development. Comprehensive application expertise in computing, communication, and consumer electronics (3C), as well as industrial electronics component assembly, is strongly preferred. This includes, but is not limited to, experience with AI chips, servers, computers, printed circuit boards (PCB), telecommunication devices, power modules, home appliances, and smartphones. Extensive product knowledge in silicone-based thermal interface materials, adhesives, sealants, encapsulants, gels, and conformal coatings is highly desirable; familiarity with organic materials such as epoxy, polyurethane, and acrylic is also advantageous.
- Proven experience of technical and commercial success: Demonstrated consistent performance as a technical core member and leader, identifying new opportunities and technological trends and transforming them into impactful projects. Played a pivotal role in driving and guiding these innovation projects to successful outcomes with significant business impact
- Languages: Superior written and verbal communication skills in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
