Job Summary:

As a R&D Engineer, your main roles will be:

  • Be the main responsible for product Research & Development related to LAN and Optical Indoor cables, leading each project according to the schedule defined together with Commercial Team;
  • Lead the product development plan (roadmap) together with Sales Team, driving the company to the market trends;
  • As R&D Engineer, you are the focal point for any subjects related to the product, being responsible for giving technical support to other areas as Sales, Process Engineering, Production and Quality;
  • Propose new product designs to achieve cost-efficient products, contributing to the financial margin of the company, and report it in KPIs;
  • Lead the test and qualification of new raw materials and suppliers, being in touch with suppliers to know the new trends of the wire and cable industry;
  • Co-work in close collaboration with operational team (process engineering and production) to industrialize new processes, machines and products with high capability and reliability;
  • Co-work in close collaboration with other cable engineering teams inside Prysmian Group, coordinating technology transfer between facilities;
  • Generate the BoM and Routing of products, and manage the product datasheets;

This positiohn will be based in Sorocaba-BR. Travel would be expected to be 20% or less.

Key Responsabilities:

  • Collaborate with Sales, Application Engineering and Industrial team, to gather voice of the customer, generate and evaluate new opportunities;
  • Guarantee new product developments and cost reduction projects;
  • Generate intellectual property to new telecommunication products and solutions;
  • Develop and execute qualification plan for new cable designs, meeting customer requirements in a timely and safe manner to contribute to the growth of the company;
  • Mentor junior team members;
  • Work in a fast-paced environment on several large and small projects in parallel;
  • Develop and run design of experiment to develop new models and calculation tools;
  • Prepare, coordinate, and supervise experimental trials on production lines
  • Open projects with internal testing lab and/or third-part testing lab to qualify cable designs per industry standards, customer requirements and determine failure mode;
  • Run data analysis, document concise data reports and present technical results to stakeholders;
  • Coordinate the introduction of products and their implementation for manufacturing with our internal and external suppliers;
  • Follow and provide continuous improvement ideas for design development processes and systems;
  • Provide product structure details, technical data sheets, drawings and other product related data;
  • Participate to identification, commissioning and qualification of new equipment;
  • Provide expert opinion on feasibility of non-standard products;
  • Expand expertise in state-of-the-art engineering through participation and presentation of technical work at conferences, webnars and blogs

Required Skills and Experience

  • Mechanical, Optical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering Degree (Bachelor, Master or PhD),
  • Knowledge in polymers extrusion and metals drawing, having at least 5 years of experience in the process, design and development of optical and LAN cables
  • High problem solving skills, and familiarity with FMEA, PDCA and agile tools
  • Team player capable of working on their own project and support other engineer/team projects
  • Knowledge of optical fibers, signal transmission theory, 6-Sigma certification and statistical analysis are big differentials
  • English is required. Spanish is optional
