Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on EHS leader to drive excellence across our UK operation. This role requires a proactive and pragmatic individual who can navigate between strategic planning and operational execution. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in the semiconductor sector or closely related high-technology manufacturing environments (e.g., optoelectronics, photonics, microelectronics, advanced materials), with the ability to manage complex regulatory landscapes while enabling innovation and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:

Set the long-term vision and roadmap for EHS and contribute to wider regional/global strategies. Integrate EHS priorities into core business objectives and partner closely with senior leadership to mitigate risks and advance sustainability goals.

  • Operational Oversight:

Provide direct leadership and support to site-level EHS professionals. Lead the maintenance, and continual improvement of an integrated EHS Management System aligned to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards. Ensure ongoing compliance and audit readiness, and alignment with corporate EHS programmes and protocols, embedding these frameworks into daily operations.

  • Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure compliance with UK-specific legislation (e.g., Health and Safety at Work Act, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), Environmental Permitting Regulations). Lead regulatory engagement and act as the company’s representative in liaison with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the Environment Agency, and other statutory bodies.

  • Risk Management & Incident Prevention:

Champion a data-driven, preventative approach to risk. Drive continuous improvement in chemical management, injury reduction, and emergency response planning. Facilitate rigorous hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies.

  • Performance Management:

Develop and report on meaningful EHS KPIs and leading indicators. Build and manage dashboards that enhance visibility and accountability at all levels of the organization.

  • Stakeholder Engagement:

Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Engineering, Operations, Legal, and Facilities teams to embed EHS principles throughout the employee lifecycle and project management frameworks. Foster a positive EHS culture where everyone feels responsible and empowered.

  • Industry Representation:

Represent the business in industry forums, regulatory consultations, and collaborative benchmarking efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related technical discipline is essential. A Master’s degree or MBA is desirable.

  • Minimum 15+ years in progressive EHS roles
  • Prior experience in the semiconductor or high-tech manufacturing industry is strongly preferred.
  • Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) or equivalent is preferred.
  • Additional qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, IEMA certification)  will be considered an asset.
  • Lead Auditor for ISO 14001/45001)
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business strategy into actionable EHS programmes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders from operational teams to executive management.
  • Advanced communication and facilitation capabilities; able to simplify complex regulatory and technical topics for broad audiences.
  • Deep knowledge of UK and EU EHS regulatory frameworks, as well as global standards and expectations.
  • Competency in digital tools for EHS management (e.g., Enablon, Velocity EHS), and proficiency in Microsoft 365 and business analytics platforms.
  • A collaborative mindset with strong problem-solving and systems-thinking orientation.
