A Day In The Life

Medtronic - Digital Technologies is creating ambitious new products that bring connectivity, real-time guidance, and decision support to the operating room. To support this mission, we are developing compact, high-performance, embedded systems that enable edge computing and connectivity. Working closely with other teams across Medtronic, we are creating a connected ecosystem and leveraging the state of the art in computer vision to provide the most comprehensive view of surgery. As a Principal Product Engineer within Digital Technologies R&D team, you will be the technology and product design owner working alongside developers, designers, project managers, suppliers and manufacturing sites to ensure availability of our critical and life-saving therapies for our customers and patients. We are looking for an experienced Product Engineer with a strong customer-focused mindset who is well versed in managing multiple complex projects at any one time.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

• Product technology and design ownership throughout the lifecycle of the product; lead ongoing lifecycle management of products, processes, and therapies
• Lead change development plan for design changes, monitoring the project from initiation through delivery; be central communication point for all product related activity
• Develop a deep understanding of the technological foundations of the system within the cross-functional team; planning, coordinating, monitoring and managing of the technical risks to achieve business objectives
• Develop skills and leverage lean six sigma, Quality through design, DRM practices for effective root cause investigations and developing robust design and processes
• Identifying and assessing product risks and issues and developing resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives; supporting requirements planning, requirements elicitation and requirements management to ensure they meet demands of project’s key stakeholders
• Serve as a voice of ‘Released Product Engineering’ during new product development and commercialization of digital and software products; efficiently navigating through the organization Matrix, driving accountability, reporting/ escalating appropriate product and project risks across all levels
• Negotiating business deliverables with internal and external partners

Required Knowledge And Experience:

• Demonstrated expertise in the field of product development and product engineering through full-life cycle; experience leading diverse and complex projects and programs as a product owner
• Strong end-to-end project / product technical leadership experience within digital and software products / services
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, negotiating; managing change; goal setting; planning and organizing teamwork; ability to address difficult situations
• Experience of product development life cycle/process of a highly regulated and/or safety-critical systems would be beneficial to this role; degree in any Computer Science / Electronics / Engineering or related technical field
• Knowledgeable in industry applicable Standards (International Electrotechnical Commission IEC 60601 for medical electrical equipment, IEC 62304 for medical device software lifecycle processes) and Regulations (European Union Medical Device Regulation [EU MDR], Restriction of Hazardous Substances [RoHS], Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals [REACH], Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment [WEEE], Management of Change [MoC]) would be highly desirable
• Experience with a large company with a global footprint, understanding of matrix structures, and having project management experience executing goals with cross-functional teams using Agile / Scrum / Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodologies
• Experience mentoring junior members of the technical staff
