The Opportunity:
Within Team Tempest, Leonardo UK is developing a suite of Integrated Sensor And Non-Kinetic Effects (ISANKE) and Integrated Communications Systems (ICS) subsystems; this effort is being coordinated by, and delivered to, the Future Combat Air Sector within Leonardo UK as a cross-Line of Business (XLoB) activity.
The subsystems within the ISANKE and ICS Technology Demonstrator Programme (TDP) suite are being designed to operate as an integrated part of an overall ISANKE and ICS system TDP within which the different subsystems will communicate and operate together. This functional integration will enable the demonstration of representative integrated sensing and communications technologies and capabilities.
The ISANKE and ICS equipment will be physically integrated onto a donor platform to deliver a Flight Test Aircraft (FTA) for test, development and demonstration purposes.
Leonardo has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineering Lead to manage the Integration and Test (I&T) activities as part of the ISANKE and ICS TDP programme.
What you’ll do as a Project Engineering Lead
You will report to the Project Engineering Manager and be responsible for:
- Producing and delivering effective , efficient and realistic I&T plans to deliver the required scope (risks/opportunities are identified, estimates are validated, stakeholders are bought in).
- Ensuring effective implementation of the company's Lifecycle Management, including Design & Gate Reviews and Processes.
- Providing engineering leadership to a multi-disciplinary, Integrated Project Team (IPT) throughout the project lifecycle to deliver the plan on time, in budget and to quality standards (lifecycle reviews are held, reporting mechanisms are in place, high level of motivation maintained within the team, consistent high level of performance achieved).
- Provide clear direction to all stuff members on their roles and responsibilities and task expectations and positively contribute to the team-members’ wellbeing.
- Ensuring the engineering team delivers the "best value" solution compliant with the customer's technical and budgetary requirements, contractual, safety and legislative standards and is consistent with the business strategy.
- Establishing and maintain good lines of communication across the Engineering IPT and upwards to the IPT lead and Engineering Leadership.
- Coordination of a cross-LoB forum to align and execute the agreed plan using dedicated and shared resources.
- Working closely with the Project Chief Engineer to resolve technical or programme conflicts and ensure that the integration and test rationale is documented.
- Ensure the test environments are fit for purpose and coordinate the integration activities with the sensors team.
- Oversee the development and execution of integration test procedures.
What We Need From You:
You Really Must Have:
- Experience of team / personnel management.
- Ability to produce clear concise engineering documentation.
- Good problem-solving ability.
- Good schedule and budget control.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in leading and delivery of work packages across multiple teams.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, across multiple sites.
- Strong leadership competency but also can demonstrate team-working skills.
- Knowledge of engineering lifecycle and business process.
- Willingness to travel within the UK .
- Knowledge of lasers, radar systems, and/or sensors and defensive aids systems.
It would be nice if you had:
- A relevant STEM degree.
- Experience with a high degree of design complexity and significant levels of uncertainty.
- Awareness of Information Security.
- Awareness of safety assessments / tasks / mitigations regarding I&T teams and associated activities.
- Awareness of data capture and analysis methodologies.
Experience with any of the following tools will be a plus:
- IBM DOORS.
- Cameo Systems Modeller (not essential).
