Company Introduction

Established in 2001, Reel Cinemas is proud to be one of the UK’s leading family-owned independent cinema chains, with 15 cinemas and 81 screens bringing the magic of the movies to communities across the country. We combine the scale to deliver quality with the independence to stay agile, personal, and rooted in local life. In an ever-evolving industry, we lead with ambition, innovation, and a clear focus on film-first experiences.

We believe in making cinema-going accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Our cinemas are rooted in their local communities, offering high-quality, great-value family entertainment without compromise. Every site reflects both the community it serves and REEL’s drive for consistently high standards.

What truly sets us apart is our personal touch. We pride ourselves on being approachable, welcoming, and dedicated to outstanding customer service. Our teams go beyond simply showing films – they create moments of connection, joy and lasting memories for our guests.

About Widnes & This Role

Our Widnes cinema is a well-established, popular venue at the heart of the community. To support the General Manager in leading the site, we’re looking for a Deputy General Manager who can combine hands-on operational management with a strong focus on people, standards, and customer service.

As Deputy GM, you’ll play a key role in the day-to-day running of the cinema—leading shifts, supporting the team, and ensuring every guest enjoys a fantastic experience. You’ll also step up to act as site lead when the General Manager is away, taking responsibility for performance, compliance, and customer service delivery.

Role Purpose

Are you a motivated leader with a passion for film, people, and delivering memorable customer experiences?

As Deputy General Manager, you’ll help run one of our busiest cinemas, supporting the General Manager across operations, standards, and team leadership. This role is perfect for someone looking to take the next step towards full site management, developing commercial and leadership skills within a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Support The Business

  • Assist the General Manager in delivering strong site performance across admissions, retail, and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead the cinema in the GM’s absence, taking responsibility for operational decisions and financial results.
  • Control costs, manage stock, and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Contribute ideas for growing admissions, sales, and event hire opportunities.

Deliver Exceptional Experiences

  • Lead by example to ensure a welcoming, customer-first culture.
  • Resolve guest issues with professionalism and care.
  • Help design and deliver local events, packages, and promotions that drive repeat visits.

Ensure Operational Excellence

  • Maintain high standards of health & safety, food hygiene, security, and compliance.
  • Ensure projection, AV, and POS systems run smoothly; act as first-line support when required.
  • Lead shifts effectively, ensuring the cinema runs to schedule and any incidents are managed safely.

Lead and Develop the Team

  • Recruit, train, and motivate team members to deliver consistently high standards.
  • Supervise daily rotas and ensure fair allocation of shifts.
  • Carry out regular 1-2-1s, appraisals, and on-the-job coaching to support staff development.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued.

What We’re Looking For

  • At least two years’ experience in a management role in cinema, hospitality, or leisure.
  • Strong customer service skills and a passion for delivering outstanding hospitality.
  • Good commercial awareness and ability to understand budgets, costs, and performance drivers.
  • Confidence leading shifts and taking responsibility for operational decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable, comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • IT literate with knowledge of MS Office and POS systems.
  • Additional certifications (First Aid, Food Hygiene, H&S, Personal Licence) are useful but not essential.

Perks & Benefits

• Competitive Salary

  • 28 Days of Annual Leave – Time to recharge and refresh.
  • Free Movies & Discounts – Complimentary tickets for you and a guest, plus discounts on snacks and drinks.
  • Supportive Workplace Culture – Be part of a passionate, collaborative team that loves what they do.
  • Genuine progression opportunities – develop your career towards General Manager and beyond.
