The Systems Engineer II is a mid-level technical role responsible for leading the configuration, deployment, and support of integrated systems across physical security, IT infrastructure and unified communications platforms. This role builds upon foundational experience and operates with increased autonomy, taking ownership of project tasks, supporting junior engineers and collaborating with Project Managers to ensure successful implementations.
Essential Functions
• Lead the design, configuration, and documentation of systems including Access Control, Video Surveillance, VoIP, and network infrastructure.
• Conduct network assessments, site walks and technical discovery to support deployment planning and execution.
• Implement and configure LAN/WAN equipment, firewalls, VLANs, WiFi systems, UCaaS/CCaaS platforms (e.g., Intermedia, Zoom) and SIP services.
• Perform system commissioning, testing, optimization and troubleshooting across multiple projects and customers.
• Resolve service issues by conducting root cause analysis and collaborating with other teams and manufacturers.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to validate Scope of Work, BOMs and align with customer requirements.
• Mentor and support engineers and technicians during fieldwork, configuration and documentation tasks.
• Maintain project documentation including diagrams, configuration logs, commissioning reports, and change records.
• Support end-user training and technical onboarding for customers post-installation.
• Contribute to engineering standards, deployment playbooks, and process improvement initiatives within the department.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree, or an equivalent combination of education/experience
• Proven experience with system configuration, network troubleshooting, and commissioning in both security and IT environments.
• Active certifications in IT/Cloud systems (eg. Cisco, Fortinet, Microsoft, Google, AWS), access control or video management systems (eg. AMAG, Genetec, Lenel, Milestone, Avigilon).
• Proven experience with system configuration, network troubleshooting and commissioning without oversight
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Excellent time management, multi-tasking and prioritization skills
• Ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision
• Understanding of server, storage, and networking architectures
• Ability to manage deadlines and have excellent follow-up skills to drive tasks to completion
• Knowledgeable of Network switches, Cloud infrastructure, Security Technologies
• Have the ability to communicate at a high level with customer IT staff
• Have the ability to work with customer to design system configurations
• Participate in project commissioning and testing
• Assist in the enforcement of standards related to final documentation
• Possess basic system design and quoting abilities to assist sales when needed
• The ability to work in a dynamic team environment with expanding customer base
• Must be professional and polished in appearance and be comfortable speaking to small groups of managers and technical and/or facility personnel
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this role, the employee will regularly communicate verbally and in writing, and must be able to see and hear in a typical office setting. The role frequently involves sitting, walking, standing, using hands to handle or feel, and reaching with arms and hands.
Work Environment
This position operates primarily in a professional office environment. It routinely involves the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, and filing systems. Occasional business travel may be required.
