Production Specialist

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct all activities related to wheelchair manufacturing and refurbishing that occur at Kiwanis Avenue site and in the shop located inside the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls.


Responsible for procurement of all materials related to the wheelchairs project at all sites. This includes negotiating to the best possible terms, including price, delivery and quantities.


Identifying and directing activities of volunteer groups working Kiwanis Avenue.


Plan, schedule and supervise activities of trustee and inmates from South Dakota Prison on a daily basis.


Develop, plan and implement warehouse management activities to allow for efficient handling of materials.


Lead tour groups that express interest in the wheelchair shops as needed.


Develop and maintain accurate inventory for all parts used in manufacturing and refurbishing process.


Successfully complete all training requirements of South Dakota Department of Correction.


Responsible for the logistics of all shipping and receiving activities at Sioux Falls location.


Follow all safety procedures and promote safety among employees, inmates and volunteers.


Regular and reliable attendance is required.


Other duties as assigned.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires the physical ability to sit for long periods of time.


Requires physical ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.


Requires physical ability to file in a 4-drawer filing cabinet.


Requires the physical ability to load and/or unload a complete 40 foot container of wheelchairs and related equipment.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Excellent organization and documentation skills


Possess a valid drivers license and ability to acquire Class D license when required and be an insurable driver with our insurance company.


Valid forklift operator’s license.


Up to date physical including compliance with Drug Test as required.


Ability to organize inventory in storage areas


Positive customer/vendor relations.


Committed to team approach in the workplace.


Knowledge of wheelchair and components.


A mix of mental toughness and compassion to be able to control and supervise inmate workers according to SDSP Rules and Regulations.


Current PT or OT certification preferred.


Negative drug screening.
