Description
Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is seeking a dedicated and experienced Chief of Neurology to lead its neurology department with clinical excellence and compassionate care. This pivotal role provides strategic neurology leadership while delivering direct patient care, including the development of comprehensive treatment plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The Chief will oversee inpatient neurology consultative services, EEG operations, and outpatient specialty clinics, ensuring high-quality neurological care across all service areas.
Please Note Scheduled Hours: 20HRs per week between the hours of 8AM-4:30PM Monday-Friday
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Deliver inpatient and outpatient neurology care, including consultations, clinics, and telephone coverage
- Provide telehealth services and interpret EEG studies for the hospital and affiliated DPH institutions
- Ensure timely neurology staff participation in consultations and call schedules
- Lead training and educational sessions for medical personnel and residents
- Support quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with regulatory standards
- Advise leadership on strategic planning, service performance, referral relationships, and operational efficiency
- Serve up to two weeks annually as inpatient attending the Acute Medicine teaching service
- Participate in medical staff recruitment, hospital committees, and other delegated duties
- Uphold hospital policies, medical ethics, and professional standards
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to teach medical theory and clinical practice
- Proven experience supervising residents, nurses, and allied health professionals
- Strong communication skills with peers, paraprofessionals, and patients
- Capacity to oversee administrative duties at a senior clinical level
- Collaborative approach to working across multidisciplinary teams
- Comprehensive knowledge of general internal medicine, including diagnosis, management, and specialized procedures
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with state operating procedures and their impact on hospital operations

Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital’s services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity.
Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction and House of Correction inmates and community patients.
The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients. In addition to direct medical services LSH hosts and supports an array of services located on the campus, serving patients struggling with addictions and homelessness.

Qualifications
First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least five years of full-time or equivalent part-time, professional experience as a registered physician three years of which must have been in a specialized field such as pediatrics, geriatrics, oncology, endocrinology, neurology or infectious disease. Special Requirements: Current and valid registration as a physician under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine. Must also be certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in area of specialization.Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range
