The Bureau of Health Preparedness (BHP) is one of Ohio Department of Health’s core public health responsibilities. BHP provides direction, support and coordination in preventing, preparing for and responding to events that threaten the public’s health. BHP maintains an all hazards approach in response to natural and man-made disasters, acts of bioterrorism, infectious disease outbreaks and other emergencies that impact the health of the public.
BHP is seeking one (1) candidate to fill our vacant Health Planning Administrator 3 role. This position will assist in planning and directing statewide efforts around emergency planning and statewide emergency response, and act on behalf of bureau chief as assigned.
Job Description
What You'Ll Do:
- provides overall direction for bureau/program administrative & operational functions & supervises lower level administrators & other staff as assigned.
- assists bureau chief in the coordination & evaluation of current program policies & procedures to ensure program activities relate to program purpose & comply with applicable federal & state laws.
- assists bureau chief & program administrators in the purchase/development & coordination of data & data management systems to support the bureau & the agency in meeting established priorities & local, state & federal reporting requirements.
- monitors the development of legislation that impacts bureau programs & assesses current trends at the federal, state & local level that have potential impact on bureau activities.
- provides input to bureau chief to assist in program planning & decision making.
- directs & coordinates with other bureau administrators in the development & monitoring of the bureau work plan, which incorporates multiple funding sources & multiple sets of objectives.
- assists bureau chief in the development & implementation of state goals & objectives for grant programs.
- coordinates with bureau/program supervisors on bureau administration issues.
- monitors bureau employee activity.
- acts as liaison between ODH & external stakeholders.
- represents bureau at conferences & in interagency planning efforts as assigned.

Qualifications
- 5 yrs. exp. in planning & administering health programs, with experience to be commensurate with approved position description on file. -Or
- Completion of graduate core program in field of public health, health administration, preventive medicine, social work, nursing or other health-related field or public policy & management/public administration or business administration;
- 2 yrs. exp. in planning & administering health programs, with education & experience to be commensurate with approved position description on file. -Or
- 2 yrs. exp. as Health Planning Administrator 1, 65245, with experience to be commensurate with approved position description on file. -Or
- 12 mos. exp. as Health Planning Administrator 2, 65246, with experience to be commensurate with approved position description on file. -Or
- Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 15, Step 1 of the Exempt Pay Range Schedule ($43.09 per hour), with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($45.51) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
