This role is accountable for delivering measurable value through cost reduction, risk mitigation, operational efficiency, and supplier performance improvement, while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Coherent’s core values.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for global procurement within the assigned business group(s), aligning procurement strategy with business goals.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing global team of procurement professionals, including direct and indirect reports.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the business group and the global Supply Chain organization, ensuring procurement priorities and activities are fully aligned with broader operational and commercial strategies.
  • Drive cost savings initiatives to deliver 5–10% reduction in external spend annually through strategic sourcing, supplier consolidation and contract negotiation.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to support new product development and lifecycle management by ensuring timely and cost-effective sourcing of critical materials and components.
  • Develop and maintain robust supplier relationships to support innovation, reliability, sustainability, and business continuity.
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks through proactive planning, supplier diversification, and inventory optimization strategies.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve procurement processes, systems, and tools, enabling greater agility and responsiveness to market and business needs.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, ethical standards, and applicable international trade regulations.

Qualification & Requirements

  • At least 15 years of experience with a minimum of 10 years performing a supply chain leadership role in a manufacturing company with global operations and complex supply lines.  Semiconductor, Photonics, and Optics experience is highly desirable; as is international experience, especially with companies located in Europe and Southeast Asia. 
  • Minimum: Undergraduate Degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Logistics, Industrial Management, Operations Management or a related field of study.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree or MBA; and Certifications such as APICS, CPM or CPSM.
  • Lead Global Procurement transformation projects working directly with the suppliers, stakeholders and business partners to execute on defined scope, budget and transformation results
  • Exceptional track record of applying procurement principles, concepts, best practices, and standards along with an in-depth knowledge of industry practices required
  • Experience working with and leading multiple projects and teams simultaneously across a matrixed organization
  • Your organizational transformation and capability-building expertise has allowed you to meet and exceed business priorities and strategies
  • Strong Leadership and effective business partnering capabilities - Influence without authority mindset
  • Ability to build strategic partnerships with suppliers
  • Solid understanding and respect for all disciplines necessary to effectively operate a global, high-growth business.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of contract and purchasing law, including domestic and international terms and conditions. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, project management and presentation skills to efficiently prepare and effectively deliver presentations to employee groups, peers, management, and executive management and persuade across all levels of the organization as well as with suppliers and customers, exercising a high degree of tact and diplomacy to accomplish objectives.
  • Analyze information at a very detailed level with an understanding of the impact at the macro level.
  • Solid understanding of financial statements/financial reporting.
  • Solid understanding of Quality Management Systems with a strong focus on Supplier Quality Management and corrective action programs.     
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001.  Familiar with TS16949, ISO13485, TL9000 and AS9100.   
  • Strong computer/software skills: Proficient with ERP & MRP Systems and advanced Excel & PowerPoint
  • Significant domestic & international travel (~50%)

  • Sitting for extended periods while working on a computer or conducting meetings.
  • Use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents.
  • Occasional lifting of objects or materials up to 20 pounds for administrative tasks.

  • Mobility within the office environment to attend meetings or interact with colleagues.
