WSP is seeking a full-time Freeway Shift Supervisor – Traffic Management that will work out of Fort Myers, FL!

Among other tasks, Freeways Shift Supervisors’ responsibilities include: 

  • The Shift Supervisor is responsible for all Operations Floor activities during their shift. 
  • Following FDOT District 1 policies and procedures, including the District 1 TMC Operations SOP. 
  • Following time requirements in the District 1 TMC Operations SOP for event confirmation, RRSP, DMS message posting, FL511 system update, etc. 
  • Posting detour routes in FL511. 
  • Carrying out all tasks as detailed in the District 1 TMC Operations SOP. 
  • The Shift Supervisor will be the central contact for communications with external agencies including voice, mail, fax, Internet and other electronic means duringtheir shift. 
  • The Shift Supervisor will, as directed, assist the TMC Operations Manager in coordinating information flow within the Operations room and for facilitating response to disasters and high profile special events affecting traffic. 
  • The TMC Shift Supervisor provides quality assurance on the day-to-day handling of all events in the operations room, including 511. 
  • The Shift Supervisor will facilitate in the information exchange between the RTMC/STMC operators and with all law enforcement dispatch personnel, ensuring that all operators are aware of relevant information pertaining to their respective systems. 
  • The Shift Supervisor will act as the TMC Operations Manager/Assistant TMC Operations Manager in their absence in handling and directing communications to the Department, FHP, local police, fire, EMS services, etc. 
  • The Shift Supervisor is expected to assist the other operators with the ongoing workload. 
  • The Shift Supervisor will monitor and report any internal and external system irregularities: Graphical User Interface (GUI), CCTV, Website, Vehicle Detection System (VDS), DMS, Monitors or Video Switch and other related equipment. 
  • If requested by the Department, the Shift Supervisor will provide general information and coordinate with District PIO to provide media with non-confidential information. 
  • The Shift Supervisor will respond to inquiries from public transportation. 
  • Receive information on related roadwork, major accidents, etc., that could affect RTMC/STMC operations from outside sources. 
  • The Shift Supervisor will receive information on special events and convey information on response details, as requested. 
  • The Shift Supervisor will be responsible, as directed, for reports and data generation including reports, telephone logs, operator performance, incident reports and any other reports that are requested. 
  • The Shift Supervisor will be responsible for the daily scheduling of all breaks for operations room staff to ensure that there is sufficient staffing in the operations room at all times. 
  • The Shift Supervisor will ensure the performance of daily maintenance checks of the system and all ITS field devices as directed. 
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the inventory database for all equipment residing within the RTMC/STMC. 
  • Assist in the training of the operators and certification process documentation. 
  • Coordinate ITS field devices repair and maintenance activities with the ITS IT and Maintenance Vendors. 
  • The Shift Supervisor will ensure that all equipment outages are reported via the “Help Desk” system. 
  • Support operation during Emergency Shoulder Use (ESU) 
  • The Shift Supervisor will ensure all data generated and disseminated by the operations room is concise and timely, including: DMS messaging, text messaging, website messaging, notifications, alerts and any other communication from operations room staff. 
  • The Shift Supervisor will facilitate proper Road Ranger dispatching to include resource allocation to events, data collection of all activities and proper quality assurance during Road Ranger assists being monitored by CCTV and other means. 
  • The Shift Supervisor will facilitate and coordinate with FDOT and/or FHP the proper Rapid Incident Scene Clearance (RISC) Vendor dispatching to major events and other activities that require their service in a timely and efficient manner. 
  • Ensure all activities and timestamps are logged into the SunGuide database and ensure the quality of information is complete and concise. This includes keeping the RISC Vendor rotation list current. 
  • The Shift Supervisor will ensure that all alert messages and notifications are properly formatted and reviewed for accuracy and correctness and in accordance with the District 1 TMC Operations SOP. 
  • The Shift Supervisor will perform all other tasks assigned by the Department. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for Freeways Shift Supervisors: 

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as an Operator in a TMC or in a facility similar to the RTMC or STMC. Exceptions can be made with FDOT approval. 
  • The use of prior experience to substitute for minimum requirements must receive the approval of the Department prior to individual being hired or promoted. 
  • Extensive knowledge of the SunGuide Software and related systems. 
  • Knowledge of Central Signal Systems. 
  • Knowledge of ITS principles. 
  • Skills in leadership, interpersonal relationships and ability to work well within a group. 
  • Knowledge of key management concepts. 
  • Ability to clearly communicate information over a radio system or network. 
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information in non-technical language verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability and willingness to work alternate work schedules and be “on-call” 24 hours/day. 
  • Skills in the use of freeway management and ATMS applications. 
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to coordinate real time activities and priorities. 

Applicants shall successfully complete the Joint Task Force (JTF) for Law Enforcement communications application for security clearance to the State Law Enforcement Radio System (SLERS).  Additionally, successful candidates must pass a biannual drug screening and a biennial criminal history background check.
