Your Contribution!

Reporting to Senior Director – Project Realization. The Senior Coordinator - Environment is responsible for overseeing that Innergex’s renewable energy projects comply with environmental regulations. The role works closely with regulatory agencies, First Nations, project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that Innergex’s projects in development, construction, and operation comply with all relevant federal, provincial, and local environmental laws and regulations, and remain aligned with our sustainability goals. Central focus of this position is to oversee the administration of federal and provincial Crown land tenures and approvals and coordinating completion of multidisciplinary environmental deliverables required for the BC Energy Regulator permitting process.

Your Day-To-Day!

  • Oversee the coordination of Crown land tenures and agreements across all project phases, including ensuring timely processing of complete applications, renewals, offers, and tracking of long-term commitments.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with government agencies (e.g. BC Energy Regulator and Ministry of Water, Lands and Resource Stewardship) and First Nations’ land departments. 
  • Critically review and oversee completion, by third-party specialist consultants, of baseline and long-term environmental monitoring programs, and environmental assessments for development and operation of hydroelectric, wind, solar and battery energy storage projects.
  • Coordinate environmental impact assessment, ensure that all necessary permits and approvals are secured, and compliance is maintained. 
  • Collaborate with internal multi-disciplinary teams (e.g., development, engineering, land, community, legal) to support preparation and filing of permit and approval applications within the required timelines, incorporating environmental considerations into decision making around project design, management plans, and business case (budget and schedule).
  • Assess and propose responses to environmental inquiries and participate in community engagement efforts as required.
  • Develop and implement environmental management plans and procedures for assigned renewable energy projects and advise on best practices for environmental strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Preparation of compliance documentation to be submitted to regulatory agencies, such as data review and analyses, compliance reports, environmental studies and notifications, and management plans.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of environmental laws and regulations relevant to Innergex projects in operation or development (federal, provincial, local).
  • Make routine use of tools such as tracking tables, lists, schedules, and other innovative methods, including Salesforce (our in-house commitment tracking system) and ERP.
  • Other tasks to support sound environmental management of Innergex’s assessment and development of renewable energy projects as required.

Your skills, our requirements!

  • 3-5 years of experience, preferably in land management, environmental consulting, government, or the renewable energy industry.
  • Experience coordinating and overseeing various federal, provincial, and local level Crown land tenures/licences and regulatory permitting/approval processes.
  • Experience overseeing the use of specialist environmental consultants.
  • Undergraduate degree related to environmental sciences, land management, or experience in the natural resources sector.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and a context of changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and advance specific tasks and projects to conclusion without extensive oversight.
  • Exercises sound judgement, detailed orientated and thinks critically about tasks, process and seeks clarity to support informed decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and spoken).
  • Proven ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • Enthusiasm, eagerness to learn and work in a seasoned team of environmental, community and Indigenous relations professionals.
  • An interest in environmental and land management issues and responsible natural resource development.
  • Available to travel throughout Western Canada (BC, SK, MB) and work away from home for short periods of time (1-3 days) to visit development, construction and/or operating sites, attend agency and community meetings, as required.
  • A driver’s license in good standing, 4-wheel-drive experience an asset.
  • The knowledge of another language such as Spanish and/or French is considered a plus.

  • The position be based in Vancouver (BC) office.
  • This position is a P2 level.

Compensation for roles at Innergex varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, education, and level of experience. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.

In the spirit of pay transparency we are excited to share the base salary for the position is between $75,000 - $87,000, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you are hired by Innergex, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
