Job Duties
The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) Developmental Services' Office of Information Services and Technology (IS&T) is seeking Cloud Engineer with expertise in solution development within a modern cloud-based ecosystem. The successful candidate will design, implement, and maintain scalable technology assets leveraging AWS cloud technologies using our approved tool stack, provide end-user support, system administration and problem resolution in our mixed Windows Server environment (Server 2016, Server 2019, Server 2022). This position involves hands-on solution engineering, specifically on the AWS cloud platform, designing APIs, automating cloud infrastructure provisioning, implementing security best practices, and applying DevOps methodologies to streamline development and deployment processes. It is strongly suggested that applicants live within a 50-mile radius of downtown Richmond [VA], in order to meet the duties and demands of the position.
Additional responsibilities include:
• Providing Microsoft server and network administration to include end-user and vendor support in these areas.
• Implementing and maintaining full-stack cloud-native solutions on AWS cloud platform.
• Building responsive and user-friendly front-end applications using React, Node.js, and TypeScript.
• Leveraging native cloud services to design, develop, and maintain cloud-based solutions.
• Developing and maintaining APIs tailored for cloud environments leveraging AWS API Gateway.
• Implementing cloud networking concepts, including VPCs, subnets, and security groups.
• Adopting cloud security best practices, including IAM.
• Implementing serverless computing and event-driven architecture using AWS Lambda and AWS DynamoDB for flexible data storage.
• Automating cloud infrastructure management using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using AWS CloudFormation, AWS SAM, and Terraform.
• Scripting and automating tasks using Python.
• Setting up monitoring, logging, and alerting for cloud infrastructure using AWS CloudWatch and CloudTrail.
• Optimizing deployment pipelines for Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) using AWS CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, and CodePipeline.
• Collaborating with senior team members and business owners to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that improve the customer’s experience.
• Assisting in designing scalable and resilient cloud engineering solutions aligned with business needs.
• Ensuring comprehensive testing, security compliance, and operational stability of solutions.
• Identifying opportunities for process improvement and innovation.
• Contributing to research and development initiatives and participating in technology skill enhancement programs.
Minimum Qualifications
• Operational and administrative experience with Windows Servers and various SAAS environments.
• Proficiency with the AWS Cloud Platform and familiarity with standard software engineering industry best practices.
• Experience implementing full-stack web applications leveraging React, Node.js, TypeScript on the front-end, and implementing serverless back-end APIs leveraging AWS Lambda and NoSQL databases (eg. AWS DynamoDB).
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Node.js).
• Solid understanding of version control (e.g. Git), DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate across diverse teams and build relationships with stakeholders.
• Proficiency in the use of personal computers, ability to analyze data, document procedures, resolve technical issues, prepare reports, provide desktop system support for users having a broad range of technical knowledge and capability.
Additional Considerations
- • Experience in on-prem (Windows Server), cloud and hybrid infrastructure, with a focus on delivering scalable, resilient, and secure solutions.
- • Industry certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect/Developer).
- • Microsoft Server Engineer certifications.
