Description
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the guidance of the VP of Program, the candidate oversees both campus and conference programs with a focus on developing new revenue-generating programs and activities for conferences and events, as well as Evidence Based Health Interventions designed to support the community.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversees the Program Coordinator, Aquatics Director and Arts & Humanities Coordinator.
Essential Functions
- Mission Advancement: Reinforces the Y’s values within the organization and the community. Effectively communicates the benefits and impact of the YMCA’s efforts for all stakeholders. Implement effective systems to develop volunteers at program and fundraising leadership levels.
- Collaboration: Develops strategies to ensure staff and volunteers reflect the community. Builds and nurtures strategic relationships to enhance support for the YMCA. Communicates for influence to attain buy-in and support of goals. Provides tools and resources for the development of others.
- Evidence Based Health Interventions: Plan and develop health promotion and chronic disease prevention programming to help guide and inspire people to make lifestyle changes that improve health. These programs will be designed to support both guests and the community at large.
- Assists the VP in budget development and ensures departmental adherence to Silver Bay YMCA financial objectives.
- Measures progress against strategic goals and ensure continuous improvement.
- Continuously evaluate programs to ensure Silver Bay offers relevant programs that meet the needs of members, guests, and community.
- Leads and manages a team of program staff, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
- Works with the VP of the Program to develop educational program elements that support the initiatives within the local communities.
- Works with the VP and other departments to develop revenue-generating programs and activities for conferences and events. This includes;
- Developing, implementing, and managing programs and activities for members, guests, and conferees.
- Developing shoulder season and winter program offerings focusing on growing participation and revenue in the non-summer season.
- Works with the VP and other departments to support the needs of Silver Bay-initiated conferences and events.
- Hires, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers in all assigned areas.
- Ensures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
- Organizes people and activities for efficiency and effectiveness.
- As a 24-hour operation, all staff may be asked to work weekend, evening, or night shifts and/or holidays in order to serve our members, guests, and program participants.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- B.S. or B.A. in recreation, education, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years at a facility YMCA or similar work experience, which includes supervision, budgeting, and program development.
- YMCA Director Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong organizational skills, including goal setting, program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, supervisory, and computer skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods standing and walking and frequently pulling, pushing, and bending.
- Prolonged periods working in inclement weather, including rain, snow, heat and cold.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
