Job Description:

Working as part of the Commercial Pool, the Asset Commercial elements of the role may cover the entirety of Shell Australia’s West Coast assets (SOV – Prelude & Crux, NOV – Gorgon and NWS), incorporating JV management, engagement, governance and developing, negotiating, and operationalising asset commercial agreements. 

The growth and portfolio elements of the role will be pan-Australia, and you will support a Team that is identifying, assessing and maturing business opportunities that support Shell’s strategic goals, including the delivery of NBD projects from Assess until deal closure or handover to IGA/RES.  Typically, you would work closely with the Business Opportunity Manager (BOM) or Deputy BOM / Commercial Lead, depending on the size and complexity of the opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

Activities will depend on asset and commercial priorities at any point in time and include:

  • Developing negotiation strategy and advice on negotiations with external stakeholders with respect to asset commercial issues (e.g. existing permits, licence amendments, JV 3rd party infrastructure access).
  • Developing, negotiating and operationalising asset commercial agreements (e.g. JOAs, unitisations, lifting and balancing agreements, tolling agreements).
  • Providing general commercial advice as required by ACLs, asset VPs, Deal Leads and other members of the Core Commercial Team.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of the commercial strategy for Shell assets and exploration in Australia.
  • Sourcing, synthesising, and communicating intelligence on the external competitive environment.
  • Interfacing with and supporting other global commercial functions while collaborating effectively across the Australian businesses in pursuit of NBD opportunities.
  • Managing internal and external interfaces associated with existing assets and growth and decarbonisation projects.

The successful candidate will have the following skills:

  • Ability to work effectively as part of multi and cross discipline teams (commercial, project and asset), including at times leading natural teams without formal authority.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to build strong relationships to maintain effective interfaces and consult with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Success in influencing multiple stakeholders (formal and informal) in an (at times) challenging operational or non-operational environment.
  • Ability to influence both formally and informally.
  • Well-developed organizational skills, a disciplined approach and diligence when performing work processes.
  • Demonstrated ability in analysing and proposing solutions to issues, exercising judgement, on a range of governance, operational & relationship matters.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to deliver on outcomes.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and resilient to challenging environments.
  • Experience in commercial negotiations with multiple stakeholders.
  • Externally focused with an understanding of the industry, competitor landscape and market trends.
  • A knowledge of the integrated value chain, and associated commercial, fiscal & legal structures.

Key Experiences

  • Considerable experience working in a JV environment, specifically in an LNG integrated value chain.
  • Experienced in interpreting economic and financial analysis and valuation, including framing and synthesising a broad range of information to identify and assess a range of options.
  • Experience in negotiating, interpreting and/or operationalizing JV agreements, including Joint Operating Agreements.
  • Experience working and collaborating across teams.
  • Stakeholder interface management.
