Hill's Pet Nutrition is looking for a talented and driven Data Scientist to join our Pet Nutrition Center and help us lead the way in pet health and wellness. Role And Responsibilities
As a Data Scientist, you will play a crucial role in our mission to develop data-driven approaches that accelerate product innovation and enhance our understanding of pet health. You'll partner with stakeholders across our R&D and other Hill's/CP groups, using your data mining and analytical skills to deliver meaningful insights that inform our nutritional impact strategies.
Core Responsibilities
- Partnering with stakeholders to execute data mining campaigns and generate insights and hypotheses about the nutritional impact on pet health.
- Working with individuals throughout R&D to identify key data sources, assess their quality, and devise strategies for their utilization.
- Building pipelines for data manipulation, visualization, and descriptive/predictive modeling using current databases.
- Designing data flows to extract data from organizational architecture and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) it into cloud-based systems.
- Presenting your work to R&D partners and making actionable recommendations for implementation.
- Building advanced data visualizations, including dashboards and custom JavaScript implementations.
- Sharing knowledge with the immediate data science team through regular presentations on progress, challenges, and new advancements.
- Assisting in training R&D scientists on basic Python and analytical skills.
- Staying current on new developments in data science by attending conferences, webinars, and following relevant sources.
- Developing, fine-tuning, and deploying deep learning models for complex generative tasks, with a focus on multimodal data.
- Designing and implementing robust data pipelines for pre-training and instruction tuning of large-scale neural networks.
- Developing, validating, and implementing programmatic approaches for data visualization, descriptive statistical analysis, and predictive modeling.
- Creating analytical/ML approaches to transform image, mobility, and other health-related observations into quantifiable metrics.
- Designing programmatic strategies to identify and solve complex data analytic problems.
- Writing, refining, and managing Python scripts for data analytics.
Education And Experience
Required Qualifications
- A Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Data Science with a minimum of 3 years of data analytics/programming experience, OR a PhD in a related discipline with a minimum of 1 year of data analytics/programming experience.
- Proficiency with statistical Computer Languages: Proficiency with Python, Julia, R, or Java.
- Experience with biological, health, or nutrition data is required.
- An active GitHub account with examples of past work.
- Active contribution to open-source data science projects, such as Kaggle competitions.
- SQL Proficiency: Experience with SQL implementations such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or MongoDB.
Preferred Qualifications
- Statistical Concepts: Strong understanding of statistical concepts, including descriptive analysis, experimental design, Bayesian statistics, sub-setting, and regression.
- Statistical and Data Mining Techniques: Expertise in techniques such as generalized linear models/regression, random forest, boosting, trees, text mining, social network analysis, and dimensionality reduction algorithms.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $113,000.00 - $127,000.00 USD
Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.
Benefits: Salaried employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, paid parental leave, disability coverage, and participation in the 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements. Additional benefits include a minimum of 15 vacation/PTO days (hourly employees receive a minimum of 120 hours) and 13 paid holidays (vacation days are prorated based on the employee's hire date within the calendar year). Paid sick leave is adjusted based on role and location in accordance with local laws. Detailed information regarding paid sick leave entitlements will be provided to employees upon hiring and may be subject to adjustments based on changes in legislation or company policies.
