LifeSource is hiring a Business Intelligence Developer to design, develop, and test reports and dashboards that support business operations using tools such as Power BI and Excel. This role involves gathering, validating, and analyzing data from various sources to identify trends, improve data quality, and support decision-making. The developer works closely with Operational Leadership and the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Teams to create visualizations and reports that enhance the accuracy and timeliness of organizational data. They also contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of the data warehouse and support extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) processes. Continuous learning in data analytics and statistical techniques is encouraged to improve reporting methodologies and insights.

As a Business Intelligence Developer,   you'll advance our lifesaving mission by performing the following duties:

Lead collaborative initiatives to advance the education, training, and knowledge of team members to ensure excellence in business intelligence processes.

  • Facilitate strategic collaboration with business partners to understand data needs, solve problems, and deliver actionable insights through Power BI solutions.
  • Provide real-time support to EMR team members, promoting continuous learning and effective troubleshooting.
  • Champion data governance and literacy by working closely with leadership and subject matter experts to establish and uphold best practices.
  • Promote cross-functional data stewardship by participating in interdepartmental forums focused on documentation standards, data quality, and knowledge sharing.

Gather, analyze, compile, and interpret data needed to recognize trends and patterns in complex data sets using statistical techniques, with an overall goal of identifying recommendations for business actions that support LifeSource’s mission.

  • Gather and synthesize data from diverse internal and external sources, including EMRs, industry reports, and public datasets, to identify meaningful trends and patterns using statistical methodologies.
  • Assess the impact of strategic initiatives by analyzing data warehouse outputs and generating business intelligence that informs future decision-making.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop robust methodologies for data profiling, anomaly detection, and continuous improvement in analytical accuracy.
  • Ensure data integrity and usability by evaluating and recommending optimal source files and data collection practices across systems.

Creates analytic and operational reports, dashboards, charts, and graphs to help organizational goals and action plans.

  • Participate with the EMR Team on data visualization, analysis, and recommendations using PowerBI and Excel.
  • Collaborate, design, develop, and maintain high quality visual reports using PowerBI.
  • Perform ad hoc queries and ongoing analysis to help users and departments make informed decisions and provides suggestions and recommendations for improvement in data quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Facilitate and become a key contributor in discussions on data requests, questions, and projects with internal and external groups.
  • Maintain and expand current knowledge of industry and business trends through communication with professional organizations, suppliers, customers, competitors, and other informed individuals.

Support the management of ETL programs to facilitate the receipt of data from various data sources, loading of data into destination tables within the overall data architecture framework, designing end-to-end solutions for file creation and distribution, supporting ETL production processes and operations.

  • Manage end-to-end data management including data integration, modeling, and reporting.
  • Maintain daily ETL processes, development and implementation of Microsoft SQLSERVER 2016 using SSIS, SSAS, SSRS and T-SQL using DDL, DML, and DCL commands.
  • Perform performance tuning T-SQL (DDL and DML) queries to improve the database performance and availability.
  • Program and develop SQL scripts, tables, views, stored procedures, functions, constraints, etc.
  • Use SSIS (Integration Services) to move data into databases from various sources, executing data cleansing and transformations as needed.
  • Execute professional customer service in responding to data issues, escalating data team members or leader, as appropriate.
  • Participate in review of potential technical architectures and solutions to improve and enhance existing systems, processes, and data services.

Qualifications

  • Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to 5 years of work with database technologies, with an emphasis on the use of analytical and reporting tools.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, highly experienced with MS PowerBI.  
  •  Proven skilled and competent in using technology-based tools.
  • Ability to handle databases and understand technology-driven business intelligence tools.
  • Proven team player with outstanding collaboration skills.
  •  Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers with the ability to develop and connect with people quickly.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy and ability to approach work conscientiously and methodically.
  • Detail oriented and highly organized with a desire to improve processes, take initiative and solve problems.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical and reporting skills, and ability to present and communicate findings to management or other stakeholders.
  • Proven self-directed, motivated contributor with a strong initiative and ability to function autonomously, establish priorities and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to exhibit a high degree of quality, integrity, and honor confidentiality of appropriate information including, but not limited to, personal team member data, organizational operations or work processes, donor and donor family information, contributor details, any financial information and medical or protected health information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA.  

Projected offer rate range:  $72-85k/year, based on relevant experience. 

Working Conditions:

  • 1.0 FTE.  Able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with schedule adjusted to accommodate organizational needs.
  • Hybrid: on-site 3 days per week in Minneapolis.  Preference will be given to local candidates.
