Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

The Film Strategy and Business Development department is a highly visible group that works closely with senior executive management across NBCUniversal and Comcast. The group works in conjunction with other business units within Universal Filmed Entertainment on a wide range of strategic initiatives including evaluating potential acquisitions, reviewing worldwide windowing and distribution strategies, and exploring new business opportunities.

Universal Filmed Entertainment seeks a highly qualified candidate for the position of Senior Analyst, Strategy and Business Development. This position will manage strategic planning activities across Universal Filmed Entertainment. Specific projects will include film greenlighting, research, analysis, modeling, and recommendations related to emerging industry trends, new business opportunities and existing businesses. The position offers unique exposure to a wide variety of businesses within the media and entertainment industry.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Prepare film ultimate P&Ls related to film acquisitions, film financing, and production
  • Analyze impact of distribution strategy (theatrical and non-theatrical) and windowing economics on film profitability
  • Provide day to day support to Business Affairs team in deal negotiations via financial scenario analysis
  • Develop and execute cross-portfolio initiatives and strategies across the NBCU Studio Group
  • Work closely with groups across Universal Pictures throughout film greenlight process
  • Formulate presentations for executive management on current UFEG and NBCU Studio Group initiatives

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2+ years of relevant industry experience (strategic planning, management consulting, business development or investment banking, ideally in the entertainment industry)
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, including significant financial modeling experience
  • Superior strategic acumen and relationship skills
  • Ability to interface effectively with multiple levels of management, ranging from senior corporate executives to business unit managers and third parties
  • Proven project management skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to author/deliver presentations
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines

Desired Characteristics:

  • Prior experience with film deal analysis & ultimates and/or prior investment banking or management consulting experience preferred
  • A solid understanding of the film industry and/or broader media industry and business models
  • Superior Excel modeling & PowerPoint experience required

Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
