The Vice President, Political & Advocacy position is aligned with McClatchy Media’s Enterprise Sales division. This is a strategic, results-driven role that will drive revenue growth in the fast-paced political advertising market. Through our diverse portfolio of print, digital, and enterprise business solutions, this role will focus on developing and activating effective sales strategies to meet the changing demands of the marketplace.
This role is for a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic, and deadline-driven environment. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of the political landscape and can forge strong relationships with key stakeholders, campaigns, PACs, and agencies. While this is a remote position, it requires a collaborative mindset to work effectively with a distributed team in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
The Anticipated Annual Base Pay Range For This Position Is Between $120,000 And $180,000, With Additional Commission/Bonus Structure Eligibility. Individual Base Pay May Vary Within That Range Depending On Job-Related Knowledge, Skills, Experience, Department Equity, And Relevant Education.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Vision & Leadership
- Develop and manage our national political sales division, setting the vision and framework for our go-to-market strategy.
- Drive Revenue Growth: Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy to achieve ambitious revenue targets and market share growth across our diverse portfolio of digital platforms, print media, and strategic enterprise solutions.
- Innovate & Evolve: Stay ahead of industry developments, technological advancements, and evolving consumer behaviors to adapt sales strategies and maintain our competitive edge.
Sales & Team Management:
- Lead a High-Performing Team: Recruit, mentor, and inspire a team of sales executives to achieve and exceed revenue goals.
- Set the Bar for Excellence: Implement best practices, provide ongoing coaching, and establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive productivity and sales excellence.
- Cultivate a Winning Culture: Promote a culture of collaboration and innovation, rewarding top performers and nurturing the growth of future leaders.
Market Growth & Business Development:
- Lead business development and drive revenue growth by forging strategic partnerships in media, direct, programmatic digital, and data.
- Cultivate key relationships with political consultants, campaign managers, PAC representatives, and agency buyers.
- Act as a market expert, guiding clients to leverage our innovative data and technology for high-value precision targeting, with a keen understanding of election cycle dynamics.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to maximize partnership opportunities and achieve both short-term and long-term strategic goals.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Foster cross-functional alignment by collaborating closely with executive leadership and key departments (marketing, product, operations) to ensure all sales initiatives meet company goals.
- Deliver clear, data-driven reports and strategic insights to the executive team on sales performance and market trends.
Culture & Adaptability:
- Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Identify opportunities to grow and develop current and future leaders.
- Stay ahead of industry developments, technological advancements, and evolving consumer behaviors to adapt sales strategies accordingly.
- While the position primarily operates remotely, it requires a high degree of collaboration with a distributed team.

Education And Experience:
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive sales experience, with 2+ years in a leadership role within the media or political advertising industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Media, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
- Experience leading teams through organizational change and business transformation.
Work Environment:
- Proficiency in handling a fast-paced, deadline-driven role that requires accuracy and adeptness in meeting multiple deadlines.
- The ability to maintain focus on tasks, coupled with strong analytical skills and adeptness in managing shifting priorities.
- Proficient in effective verbal and written communication with colleagues, management, and external stakeholders, utilizing various mediums such as in-person interactions, email correspondence, written documents, telephone conversations, and video conferencing applications.
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance meeting or exceeding the legally mandated minimum requirements.
- Travel, including by air, to various locations may be necessary.
