The Role

As an Asset Engineer at Vector, you’ll play a key part in shaping the future of Auckland’s electricity network. You’ll be responsible for analysing asset performance, developing asset strategies, engineering designs and maintenance standards across a diverse range of network assets, with a strong focus on data analysis, quality assurance, standards review, and validating asset insights in the field. Your work will include asset inspection imagery analysis, validation of network assets, and supporting the adoption of AI-driven asset management practices.

You’ll collaborate closely with field teams and stakeholders, contributing to risk-based and data driven asset investment decisions, asset risk modelling, and failure investigations. This role offers significant technical variety and the opportunity to contribute to both technological advancement and organisational improvement, while supporting and mentoring other engineers within the team.

On offer are multiple roles at Engineer or Senior Engineer level, depending on the experience of the successful candidate.

Who are we looking for?

We’re seeking candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Practical, hands-on engineering experience – either with a background in trades, apprenticeships or fieldwork (eg as a lines person or cable jointer) and looking for the next step, and/or with relevant academic qualifications
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • A passion for continuous improvement and openness to new approaches, including AI and data-driven asset management
  • Asset management and systems thinking skills, with the ability to balance cost, performance, risk and safety in decision-making
  • Experience in the New Zealand electricity distribution industry and familiarity with asset management are advantageous, but not essential.
