Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Financial Controller to join our Cotton Platform team in Toowoomba, QLD. This role is responsible for setting business targets, monitoring financial performance, advising on the financial impact of key business decisions, and ensuring accurate reporting of financial and managerial data. The position plays a critical role in safeguarding and improving financial results, while providing strategic insights to senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities (Not Limited To):
- Deliver accurate and timely analysis of monthly management financials for the Cotton platform.
- Manage financial impacts of industry asset procurement/divestment, including Fixed Asset Register and Depreciation schedules.
- Design and improve reporting strategies and templates for enhanced effectiveness.
- Provide specialist advice on finance policies and resolve complex queries from global finance teams.
- Interpret and analyse P&L, volumes, revenues, and production cost drivers for stakeholders.
- Lead industry-related financial audits annually.
- Prepare and review annual budgets in collaboration with the FP&A Analyst for Ginning, Warehousing, and corporate business units.
- Support monthly forecasts, tracking industry-related volumes and KPIs for management and executive teams.
- Analyse capex project applications to ensure accuracy of return estimates.
- Produce and distribute monthly capex reporting.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic initiatives and decision-making within the Cotton Platform.
- Contribute to system development projects and business-as-usual finance processes.
- Lead and mentor the Cotton Industry Controller, supporting development, workload management, and team objectives.
Qualifications
Essential skills & Experience
- Professional accounting qualification (CPA, CA, or equivalent).
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in a finance role, ideally within a medium-to-large corporate environment.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge aligned with Australian Accounting Standards.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial analysis, variance analysis, GL posting, accruals, reconciliations, and management reporting.
- Proven experience managing budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting cycles.
- Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills with a detail-oriented approach.
- Strong Excel skills (intermediate to advanced level).
- Knowledge of JD Edwards (preferred) or other ERP systems.
- Previous experience in the cotton or agribusiness sector highly regarded.
- Undergraduate degree in Finance or Accounting.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial insights clearly.
- English fluency
