About Us

Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas in criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice and help at court as well as assist with other services. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.

About the role
As the Solicitor in Charge (SIC), you will provide leadership and manage the day to day activities of a team. Develop and maintain key relationships with internal and external stakeholders including private solicitors, counsel, legal assistance providers and court personnel.

Conduct a legal practice as the most senior specialist for Criminal Law in accordance with Legal Aid NSW policies and guidelines in order to contribute to the implementation of Legal Aid NSW’s mission to deliver high quality legal services to our clients and to assist them to resolve their legal problems.

About you 
The successful applicant will be a confident and experienced criminal law solicitor with a passion for leadership and a commitment to delivering high quality legal services. 

Your strong communication skills and ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders both internal and external set you apart.

Management experience is essential, along with a demonstrated ability to mentor and develop staff, drive service improvements, and promote a collaborative team environment.

We may use this recruitment to create a talent pool for ongoing or temporary vacancies we have over the next 18 months.

The essential requirements for this role

You Must:

  • be admitted or be eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW
  • be able to provide a current NSW Practising Certificate before you start work with us
  • be willing to do a Criminal Record Check and/ or Working with Children Check
  • hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing vacancies) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary vacancies)
