About The Role:

The Applications Engineering team at Confluent is creating applications that act as the company’s central nervous system, driving a data-centric approach and linking actions to insights. We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager to join our Applications Engineering team. In this role, you will lead and develop a high-performing team of Applications Engineers who manage modern web applications.

As a Senior Manager - Application Engineering, you will be responsible for leading the team in the design, development, and maintenance of internal facing applications, configuring tools, managing applications using CI/CD principles, and adopting governance best practices. The ideal candidate will possess a strong combination of technical skills, people management experience, and business acumen.

What You Will Do:

• Recruit, Lead and Manage a team of Application Engineers and Leads.
• Mentor and coach team members to enhance their skills and career development.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
• Provide technical direction and guidance to the team on both front-end and back-end technologies.
• Ensure best practices for software development, including security standards, coding standards, code reviews, and testing.
• Drive architectural decisions and contribute to the design and development of scalable, reliable, and secure cloud-based solutions.
• Oversee the development and maintenance of server-side logic, APIs, & databases and front-end frameworks and technologies (e.g., JavaScript, React, Angular, Golang, Postgres) to build responsive web applications
• Collaborate with infrastructure and DevOps teams to ensure smooth deployment and monitoring of applications.
• Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of projects across the front-end and back-end teams.
• Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of features and enhancements.
• Manage Support requests and issues in a timely manner
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders to understand requirements and provide progress updates.
• Foster collaboration between cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of features.
• Represent the Application Engineering team in cross-functional meetings and contribute to strategic planning.

What You Will Bring:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 15+ years of experience in Application Engineering, with a focus on building scalable, resilient and responsive cloud based web applications
• 5+ years of experience in leading and managing Software Engineering teams
• Strong technical background with hands-on experience in modern front-end and back-end technologies.
• Preferred 2+ years of experience in Apache Kafka and/or Confluent, event-driven architectures, and stream processing applications
• Experience in front-end frameworks (e.g., JavaScript, React, Angular) and back-end technologies (e.g., Java, Python, GoLang,Node.js).
• Experience with database technologies, both SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with DevOps practices, including continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline
• Ability to architect complex engineering systems from end to end.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Experience with Agile methodologies and project management tools.
