Robotics Customer Operations Intern

Internship
Company Overview
Each year, 2.5 trillion hours are spent on household chores. At Matic, we’re on a mission to recapture that lost time, and we’re doing it by revolutionizing home robotics.
Our first product, also called Matic, is a Wall-E-esque floor cleaning robot. We've built what amounts to "full self-driving in the home” with real-time 3D mapping, adaptive path-tracking, and a precise semantic understanding of the home. Our breakthroughs in spatial AI allow Matic to work reliably in real homes, using only RGB cameras and neural networks running on-device.
Privacy First
What happens in the home, stays in the home. Our robots are private by design, with all data processing performed by the robot itself, not in the cloud.
Our Approach
Before the iPhone, consumers adopted several distinct devices; cell phones, PDAs, and portable music players each served a particular need. We believe in a similar progression for home robotics, starting with single-purpose robots and building iteratively toward more complex capabilities over time.
Our Culture
Matic is a tight-knit and collaborative team, singularly focused on building products our customers will cherish. We're ultra-hardworking people committed to solving tough problems that save precious time and energy.
About The Role
As a Robotics Operations Intern, you’ll support and improve the systems, workflows, and processes that power Matic’s purchase-to-delivery experience as we scale from 1000s of robots to 10s of thousands. You’ll work closely with Production, Supply Chain, and Operations to keep orders flowing, shipping reliable, comms clear, and returns tight. This internship offers a direct path to full-time employment for exceptional performers, with no break in transition.
What you’ll do:
Own the entire product operations pipeline from the moment the customer places an order to shipping products to onboarding to the successful resolution of all customers' inquiries and issues related to the product.
Order Management
- Run day-to-day Shopify operations: order flows, invoicing workflows and refunds, tagging/segments, OMS views, split shipments, and hold/release.
- Determine accurate ship and delivery dates based on available inventory, sales forecasting, product lead-time, and customer delivery/method requests for all items ordered.
- Proactively analyze and follow up on unshipped orders to ensure delivery commitments are met and customer satisfaction stays high.
- Build and maintain operational dashboards to track shipment performance, repeat purchase rate, cohorts, cohort analyses, and recall monitoring.
- Align with Finance on inventory and COGS; keep order data clean for revenue reporting.
- Monitor fulfillment efficiency and escalate risks proactively.
Shipping & Logistics
- Own outbound shipping: understand carrier requirements, carrier evaluation/negotiation, FedEx & UPS account management, packaging requirements, DG compliance, and cost analysis.
- Collaborate with Production and Engineering on packout workflows, label automation, split shipments, and fulfillment planning.
- Resolve shipment issues stemming from incorrect, missing, or damaged product; drive root-cause fixes and document prevention steps.
- Lead reverse logistics, including returns process improvements and documentation.
- Train and onboard teammates on Shopify, ShipStation, and FedEx workflows.
- Document operational processes into clear playbooks.
- Data accuracy: Maintain ≥99.9% order data accuracy with a clear path to 100% and zero preventable errors.
Customer Success
- Coordinate customer communications around shipping status, delays, and recalls.
- Collaborate with Marketing to generate mailing lists and cohorts for campaigns and updates.
- Handle customer tickets related to order management and shipping status.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to enable scale as we transition from hundreds to thousands of customers.
What we look for
- 2 years of experience in logistics, or customer operations at a consumer hardware, robotics, or direct-to-consumer brand.
- Strong working knowledge of Shopify, OMS tools, and shipping platforms (ShipStation, FedEx, UPS).
- Comfort with data and analytics: building dashboards, analyzing shipping costs, identifying recall patterns.
- Strong written communication skills for customer updates and internal documentation.
- Excited by fast-moving startup environments, with a builder’s mindset and attention to detail.
- Work in-office, 5-days a week in Mountain View, CA
We'd love to hear from you if...
- You love the details and making sure every detail is perfect
- You are genuinely motivated to help those around you
- You are passionate about learning outside of your normal comfort zones
- You love diagnosing complex technical issues
- You love to question the status quo and solve problems from first principles
- You are excited to do your life's work
The role is based out of our HQ in Mountain View, California. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, organizing and setting up processes and logistics so that not a single detail is missed, and a passion for turning customers into our evangelists.
The job will require interacting with a cross-functional team, answering customers' questions, triaging customer issues, and making sure that we exceed the expectations of each customer. You will work closely with team members from our hardware, software, product, and marketing teams.
Matic’s product team is obsessed with building robots/products that customers love. If you’re passionate about great design and obsessed with getting the details right, we’d love to talk to you about how you can work with us to help bring pioneering innovation in home robotics to consumers.
