Team Overview

KKR’s Technology, Engineering, and Data team is responsible for our technological foundation including our data platforms, AI initiatives, and critical integrations that accelerate our path to transformation. The Technology, Engineering, and Data team invests in new technology that will support and scale our business to create an intelligent, data centric culture. The team is also responsible for systems and tools that manage our investor contact data, permissions, and other content within our client-facing portal and support integrations that feed into those systems. The team consists of highly technical and skilled employees with the ability to form strong partnerships between technology and business segments.

The Client Systems Engineering team, part of KKR’s Technology organization, develops technology solutions for clients and KKR teams with the objective to deliver exceptional experiences, enable firm growth, and mitigate firm risks.  Our team supports a flagship cloud-native platform that enables clients to seamlessly engage with our firm. We collaborate closely with the Sales, Client Operations, Tax, and other Technology teams, as well as Compliance, Enterprise Risk, Finance, Internal Audit, Legal, and Marketing.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to direct and oversee the development of KKR’s client portal. This role will work closely with product managers to deliver a stellar experience for our clients. The ideal candidate is a full-stack leader with deep expertise in building robust and secure internet-facing applications in AWS. They will lead a global team of full-stack software developers to deliver a seamless digital experience for our clients and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Technical Excellence: Solve complex business problems with elegant and intuitive technical solutions. Continuously refine the implementation to align with business needs.
• Engineering Leadership: Oversee a team of product focused software engineers responsible for the digital client experience. Ensure the team’s accountability for the full software development lifecycle of their products—including design, development, test, support, and continuous improvement—while maintaining a consistent and intuitive user experience and connectivity with other applications in the ecosystem and client lifecycle.
• Continuous Improvement: Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, mentoring other members of the engineering community
• Vendor and Partner Integrations: Help lead buy vs. build assessments, select the right partners, and manage ongoing vendor relationships to ensure high-quality resilient integrations that minimize time to value
• Platform-Mindset: Ensure technical decisions are in line with the broader Client Lifecycle Product and Technology vision, focusing on interoperability and scalability across teams and tools.
• Technology and Company-Wide Contribution: Actively contribute to Technology and company-wide priorities, offering input beyond the immediate engineering role to support broader company objectives and initiatives.

Qualifications

• Experience: 10+ years of building enterprise-grade, full-stack software solutions with a expertise in architecture, design, and development.
• AWS Cloud-Native: 3+ years of experience developing Internet-facing highly available applications on AWS.
• Secure by Design: Stay up to date on emerging security threats and ensure that security is built into the architecture from the start.
• React and Typescript: Expert knowledge of modern JavaScript tools, including React, Typescript, MUI, Vite, Jest, Node, and more.
• DevOps: Proficient with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform and with CI/CD processes.
• Database Expertise: Strong skills in data modeling and migrations across Relational (SQL) and non-Relational (NoSQL) databases
• Product-Centric Design: Ability to drive client-focused product design in an agile environment.
• Data-Driven: Proven experience with analytics and implementing application instrumentation for monitoring and insights.
• Mentorship & Leadership: Skilled in mentoring engineers on secure, reliable, and scalable software development practices.
• Innovation & Creativity: Promotes the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and encourages innovative problem-solving.
• Effective Communication: Ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

This is the expected annual base salary range for this New York-based position. Actual salaries may vary based on factors, such as skill, experience, and qualification for the role. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, based on factors such as individual and team performance.Base Salary Range$200,000—$235,000 USD
