The Opportunity

Industrious is at a once in a lifetime inflection point, transitioning from being a late stage growth startup to an independent business unit of the world’s largest real estate company. This next phase is all about figuring out how to make the most of the platform we’re now a part of, including nurturing our #soindustrious team, bringing our expertise in workplace experience to millions of people around the world, building new products, and doing it all with sustainable economics. 

We’ve outgrown traditional BI and reporting — and we’re ready to reimagine how data powers our business. Our goal:

  • A fast, agile data model that scales as quickly as we do.
  • A company-wide ability to ask questions in plain English and get instant, trusted answers.
  • A data platform that is AI-native at its core.

We’re looking for a Head of Data & AI to lead this transformation. You will guide our data engineering team, partner closely with the executive team, and architect the future of data at Industrious. You’ll balance the balcony and dance floor — zooming out to shape vision and strategy, zooming in to push for technical excellence and unblock your team.

This is not about maintaining the status quo. It’s about building a platform and a culture that turns data into our most strategic asset.

What You’Ll Do

You’ll be joining and leading our "small but mighty" engineering and data group. We pride ourselves on being smart, fun, and highly collaborative. This is not your typical engineering environment; we are allergic to bureaucracy and operate with low ego and high velocity. Strategy & Vision

  • Define the North Star: Craft and evangelize a compelling vision for an AI-native data ecosystem at Industrious. Your roadmap must connect foundational infrastructure directly to game-changing business outcomes.
  • Be the Executive Whisperer: Work closely with the ELT and department leaders to deeply understand their existing needs, anticipate their future challenges, and translate business strategy into data requirements.
  • Kill the Static Dashboard: Architect the strategy for true data fluency. We are moving beyond centralized reporting to a culture of empowered, self-serve analytics accessible via natural language.

Execution & Delivery

  • Build the Foundation: Lead the design and implementation of a modern, scalable, and reliable data stack (we currently leverage tools like Looker Pro, Snowflake, Redshift, Fivetran, but you will define the optimal setup). This platform must be the unequivocal single source of truth.
  • Challenge and Deliver: Partner with and challenge the engineering and data teams to deliver incredible results at high velocity. You must be comfortable diving into the technical weeds to ensure architectural integrity.
  • Simplify and Accelerate: Attack our existing data transformations, simplifying, documenting, and sharing them to unlock immediate improvements in our current BI while building the future platform.

Leadership & Influence

  • Be the Translator: Seamlessly zoom into granular technical details with engineers (you know the architecture inside out) and zoom out to articulate the strategic value of your roadmap to the C-suite.
  • Lead the Transformation: You are not just building tools; you are changing how Industrious operates. You will guide teams to embrace data in their daily workflows and strategic planning.
  • Mentor and Inspire: Foster a culture of excellence within the data team. They need a leader who understands the weeds, provides clear direction, and supports their growth.

Who We'Re Looking For:

  • A Proven Transformer: Significant experience (8+ years) leading data platform, data engineering, or analytics teams, with a clear track record of transforming data infrastructure from the ground up.
  • Deep Technical Fluency: You are an expert in modern data architecture (ELT/ETL, Warehousing, BI visualization, Data Governance, and emerging AI/ML tooling). You can hold your own and provide credible challenges to senior data engineers.
  • Strategic Product Mindset: Experience shaping ambiguous challenges into a clear vision and an executable, prioritized roadmap. You understand that a data platform is only successful if it’s adopted.
  • Master Communicator: Exceptional ability to simplify complex technical concepts and create compelling narratives.
  • The Culture Fit: Low ego, high energy, fun to work with, and passionate about empowering others. You thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and have a relentless bias for action.

What Success Looks Like

We move fast, and we expect you to hit the ground running.

0-3 Months (The Foundation):

  • Trust Established: The ELT feels they have a strategic partner who understands their business needs. The data team feels inspired and supported by a leader who knows exactly what they are doing.
  • Immediate Impact: We quickly see improvements in our existing BI as data transformations are simplified, documented, and shared with the rest of the company.
  • Quick Wins Delivered: Our 15 most important dashboards have been successfully transferred to the new platform.

3-6 Months (The Shift):

  • AI Foundations Laid: We can start querying core segments of our data using natural language (e.g., "When did this member start, and what is their renewal date?").
  • Scalable Ingestion: A robust, secure process is established to easily ingest more data, including PII.

6-9 Months (The Scale):

  • Total Accessibility: Our full data ecosystem is accessible through natural language querying.
  • Cultural Adoption: The full company uses the new platform and feels in control.
  • Instant Insights: In strategy meetings, we can make informed decisions because the answer to our question is just a few seconds away.

9-12 Months (The Frontier):

  • The Data Playground: We have a safe environment accessible through MCP servers that anyone in the company can use to vibe code their own apps.
  • Industrious is recognized as a data and AI leader in our industry.

What We’Re Looking For

  • 8+ years in data leadership (data engineering, data platform, analytics), with at least 3 years managing high-performing teams.
  • Proven experience building and scaling modern data stacks (Snowflake, Looker, Redshift, Fivetran, dbt, etc.).
  • Track record of leading transformative data programs — from BI modernization to AI-native platforms.
  • Deep technical fluency; comfortable debating schema design one moment and presenting strategy to the board the next.
  • Exceptional communicator and collaborator; able to earn trust across execs, engineers, and business stakeholders.
  • Low ego, high curiosity, fun to work with — the kind of leader people rally behind.

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • Built or deployed AI/ML-powered products or platforms.
  • Led a full data platform transformation at a high-growth company.
  • Experience shaping a data org from the ground up.

Compensation And Benefits

The annual base compensation range for this role is between USD $200,000 and $230,000. The successful candidate's actual base compensation will be based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to work experience, job-related knowledge, skills, and professional qualifications. You will also be eligible for an annual 17% bonus and participation in our long-term incentive program.

Base and bonus compensation are just two components of Industrious’ total compensation package for this role.
