As a staff turbopump engineer you will be a key member of a small and talented team working toward refining our turbomachinery technology across multiple engine platforms. You will own portions of the turbopump technology and provide an active voice in engine test and development. You will report to the Manager of Turbomachinery Engineering.
Responsibilities:
- You will support conceptual design and development of new Turbomachinery as the subject matter expert in one or more key areas. You will perform the necessary design trades, preliminary design work and analysis to support this.
- You will collaborate with the Turbomachinery Design team to put together high performing state of the art new turbomachinery detailed designs that are manufacture-able and flight ready.
- You will support existing Ursa Major Turbomachinery where applicable to troubleshoot performance or reliability issues in your area(s) of expertise.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
- 5+ year’s experience in turbomachinery design and development.
- 2+ years’ experience working with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX or PTC Creo.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, startup environment.
- Significant experience / technical expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Rotor dynamics; balancing fundamentals
- Turbine stage aero-mechanical design
- Hydrodynamic design of pumps / inducers etc.
- Turbomachinery detailed layout and design
- Experience in a Turbomachinery related analysis software (ANSYS FEA, CFD or other specialized software as applicable)
Desired Skills And Experience:
- Experience with structural and thermal analysis using Ansys FEA software
- Proficient major industry CFD software (CFX, Fluent etc)
- Experience in liquid rocket engine, design, test or analysis
Work Environment:
- This role is available as a hybrid role (2-3 days per week) in Berthoud, Colorado or as a remote position (US-based) with regular travel to Colorado.
Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $140,000 - $170,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The salary range for this role is intentionally wide as we are evaluating individuals based on their unique experience and abilities to fit our needs.
