Reporting to the Vice President, Ethics and Compliance, this position spans the global ethics & compliance organization at Assurant and is responsible for oversight of the team responsible for the Conflict of Interest program, data analysis and reporting, ethics program governance and processes, and developing and leading the global ethics & compliance training strategy.
This position is also responsible for developing and executing Ethics & Compliance awareness initiatives to drive an effective speak up culture, raise awareness of the requirements for compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, and ensure employees meet Assurant’s ethics and compliance standards. This position will work collaboratively with groups across the company, including various Business, Compliance, Corporate Communications, Human Resources, Legal, Regional, and Operations areas.
Preferred Location: Atlanta, GA, or Miami, FL (other locations will be considered for exceptional talent).
What will my duties and responsibilities be in this job?
Ethics Program Operations
- Responsible for overseeing ethics-related programs and initiatives, including E&C technology strategy and solutions, E&C helpline operations, Code of Ethics and other E&C policies, and other projects as they arise.
- Act as a subject matter contact on corporate ethics policies and guidelines related to Assurant’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and maintain a working knowledge of relevant ethics issues, of professional or industry ethics codes, and ethics conflict resolution techniques.
- Lead team responsible for the Conflict-of-Interest program.
- Serve as a key member of a senior-level cross-functional investigation response team.
- Responsible for leading the data analysis and report generation for various internal and external stakeholders, including the Audit Committee of the Board, management committee, ESG, client, exam responses, and other internal stakeholders.
- Conduct ethics investigations, as needed.
- Serve as a trusted advisor by providing ethics consultation to employees, business partners, and senior management to help ensure Assurant manifests a strong culture of integrity throughout all levels of the enterprise.
Training & Communication
- Manage the overall ethics & compliance training portfolio and collaborate with subject matter experts, People Organization, training partners, and business area ethics & compliance teams to proactively identify targeted risk training needs for applicable audiences.
- Lead and develop the comprehensive global strategy of ethics & compliance-related training, both custom in-house training and in coordination with third-party vendors. Serve as subject matter expert on ethics & compliance course content. Partner with the Learning & Development team to deliver on the strategic plan.
- Assess training and engagement program effectiveness using both quantitative and qualitative measures and recommend changes and enhancements to increase engagement in the ethics & compliance program.
- Lead the global ethics & compliance communications strategy and execute on applicable initiatives, including collaborating with regional compliance partners and other internal stakeholders to ensure fully integrated communications strategies with consistent implementation across the enterprise and to share innovative/successful approaches for broader use. Experience in creative initiatives a plus!
- Lead execution of governance processes related to E&C training, Assurant’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, including the interactive code of conduct, and other ethics-related policies.
- Work with investigation managers to identify patterns of emerging risk and remediation efforts; develop and implement applicable awareness messages to relevant audiences.
- Develop strategies to help leaders communicate with their team members to promote a speak-up environment and respond appropriately to employee concerns, partnering with HR and other functions as appropriate.
- Build and lead a global Ethics Ambassador network and program.
Reporting & Analytics
- Identify trends and create reports of ethics & compliance metrics and findings for various stakeholders, including senior leadership, auditors, and the board.
- Document business requirements, compliance issues, and resolutions.
- Work with internal partners to support the enterprise policy management program.
What are the requirements needed for this position?
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Legal, Business Administration, Communications, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive compliance experience, preferably in a manager or director role, with demonstrated knowledge of ethics and compliance rules, regulations, and best practices.
- A minimum of 5 years of direct leadership experience, including virtual teams.
- Proven experience overseeing the conflict-of-interest program.
- Proven experience in developing easy-to-understand policies.
- Proven experience developing a global ethics & compliance training and awareness strategy and serving as SME for the development of ethics & compliance training and awareness content
- Ability to establish credibility with business owners, including senior leadership, through professional communication, work product, etc. Solutions-oriented, demonstrated growth mindset, and strong analytical skills.
- Champion a culture of integrity and adherence to the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective cross-functional relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders of various levels and areas throughout the organization.
- Successful track record working in a multi-function, global environment.
- Ability to lead change efforts through effective communication and persuasion.
- What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?
- Proven experience developing a global ethics & compliance training strategy and serving as SME for the development of ethics & compliance training content
- Proven experience developing and delivering creative ethics & compliance communications content/awareness initiatives to a global audience with demonstrable results
- Prior experience developing and/or leading an ethics ambassador or liaison program
- Prior experience responding to ethics inquiries and investigating allegations of misconduct
- Prior experience influencing change in a global, highly matrixed organization
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent writing skills and prior experience presenting to large groups
- Ability to communicate effectively and with structured thinking, in writing and verbally, across all levels of the organization, including senior executives.
- Demonstrated success integrating ethics & compliance into daily business operations
- Proven track record in developing, designing, and implementing global policies, procedures, and training in a diverse, matrixed environment
- Proficiency in SharePoint and the Microsoft Office Suite, with specific emphasis on Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience leveraging AI and advanced analytics within ethics and compliance programs
- Proven track record in integrating emerging technologies, with attention to bias, transparency, and regulatory guidance.
- Impeccable integrity and commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct
- Have or be willing to obtain applicable compliance certification, such as CCEP, LPEC, CRCM, etc.
- Auditing and monitoring experience is a plus.
- What are the working conditions and physical requirements of this job?
This position requires incumbents to regularly sit at a desk and operate standard office equipment such as a computer and phone. Pay Range:
$119,600.00 - $199,800.00Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
