The Global Lead Innovation & Process Excellence drives and defines the design and implementation of data driven innovation and continuous improvement projects for Research & Development Quality (RDQ), focusing on improving current tools, systems and processes in close collaboration with all RDQ functions and related business partners.

Job Description

Major Accountabilities:

  • Identify innovative ways to continuously improve processes, systems and tools relevant to achieve the RDQ and Research & Development (R&D) ambitions and ensure on-going compliance with global Health Authority requirements and Novartis Quality Standards
  • Lead related cross-functional projects and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure that meaningful metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are in place, in collaboration with RDQ and R&D functions. Measure the performance of key development processes and establish signal detection in order to proactively identify upcoming risks 
  • Establish new or leverage existing data feeds and information & collaboration channels to establish a pro-active approach to identify needs (risks) and improvement opportunities for R&D
  • Collaborate with relevant functions from RDQ, Global Quality and Technology Transformation (DDIT) teams to ensure new and emerging processes, technology and data analytics opportunities are identified and implemented 
  • Liaise with internal Novartis DDIT and external system vendors on topics related to system performance, security access, upgrades and planning
  • Support the annual Quality Plan activities, defining specific activities/actions to drive proactive quality performance and quality across GxP
  • Execute appropriate project management of all Quality Process Excellence project activities, full adherence to the Quality Plan, and flawless execution of all related operational activities 
  • Represent RDQ at global Innovation initiatives (e.g. CADENA) to capture needs in the data and digital space, identify solutions through structured ideation approaches, including rapid prototyping and maintain the innovation for RDQ
  • Be an ambassador for the Novartis values and behaviors and support the journey towards an inspired, curious, unbossed and self-aware organization.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Successful leadership of innovation and process improvement projects/initiatives, with representatives from functions, regions and country organizations 
  • Assigned project deliverables, timelines and budget are fully met; issues are identified, addressed and/or escalated to mitigate overall risk
  • Process Excellence tools and processes are developed and implemented in RDQ
  • Metrics and KPIs defined, monitored and fully transparent within related project teams
  • Successful audits and Health Authority (HA) inspections – specifically related to assigned enabling tools and technologies
  • Client/stakeholder satisfaction and corresponding feedback.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Significant relevant work experience (> 8 years) in pharmaceutical development and working in a GxP regulated area (preferably including Good Clinical Practice (GCP)), with broad understanding of global expectations of Health Authorities in the area of Pharma Development
  • Proven self-starter with experience in initiating and ensuring delivery of geographically and functionally diverse teams
  • Strong knowledge of computer information systems including data science and analytics needs assess, cost/benefit analysis, and implementation track record on global organizational level
  • Track record of successful project and process management specifically information systems projects
  • Experience on large-scale business process re- engineering project(s) performing analysis, process design/reengineering, development, integration, and implementation of system improvements
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated leadership in implementing robust quality systems and setting global quality controls in a regulated areaSelf-motivated with a high degree of ownership and accountability for results
  • Strong organizational awareness (e.g. interrelationship of departments, business priorities), including significant experience working cross-functionally and in global and matrix teams
