The Center for New York City Affairs seeks a full-time Labor Market Analyst to support the Economic and Fiscal policy team. The Center for New York City Affairs at The New School is an applied policy research institute that drives innovation in policy. Our research and programming strives for a more just and equitable city and focuses on how public policy impacts low-income communities.
The Economic and Fiscal Policy program team conducts research and writing on local and state economic and fiscal policies that improve the lives of New York City’s low- and moderate-income communities. The program’s goal is to produce research to support a range of policy interventions – including improving work opportunities and pay standards, strengthening social safety net policies like unemployment insurance, and making infrastructure investments in such areas as universal childcare. Our work combines economic analysis with actionable policy responses to address structural issues undergirding racial and economic disparities.
We seek candidates who understand that access to good, quality jobs are a critical strategy to decreasing income inequality and facilitating equitable economic growth in the United States. We seek candidates who are passionate about producing evidence and arguments to combat worker exploitation. Candidates should have a passion for New York City and for using their quantitative research skills for the public good. Therefore, candidates should also have the ability to translate their research findings into writing or presentations accessible to a wide range of audiences. Candidates should be comfortable interacting with advocacy organizations, public officials and agency staff.
We seek candidates who have experience working with large data sets (such as the ACS and CPS microdata). Candidates should be analytic and demonstrate skills in designing and implementing quantitative research methods as well as synthesizing academic literature and policy research. Ability to work independently, juggle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines is critical.
The successful candidate will report to the Director of Economic and Fiscal Policy. This position is funded by and contingent upon external fundraising beyond the first year.
