Your Role:

Procurement team engages Contract Manufacturers (CMs) and suppliers to manufacture and package Drug Products and APIs that are supplied around the globe. The team is responsible for the strategic sourcing of goods and services in a way that adds value to the Elanco business, by delivering cost savings, reduced supply risks and improved manufacturing network capabilities that impact the business top and bottom line.

Your Responsibilities:

The primary role of this position will be to manage the API suppliers or CMs globally. Support will consist of:

Strategic Sourcing: Conduct projects (in conjunction with global Elanco procurement API, Drug Product category owners) –category strategy development, requests for information/proposals, negotiations and contracting, financial dispute resolution and ongoing project management to ensure implementation and performance. Relationship Management: He/ She will work closely with internal clients and be involved in relationship management with existing China/AP Regional EEM CMOs/suppliers to assure the value targeted during negotiations is realized for the business. Monitor suppliers’ financial and compliance conditions to determine if there is risk or impact to product supply. Opportunity Assessment: assessing potential opportunities on a regular basis that will benefit Elanco. Monitor suppliers’ financial and compliance conditions to determine if there is risk or impact to product supply. Participate in meetings, due diligence and visits with the EEM joint supplier/CMO management teams. Perform market intelligence: the selected candidate will conduct site visits to potential suppliers to do an initial screening to determine if they are capable of meeting Elanco's requirements and quality standards.

This position will report to the Director of API Global Procurement - Elanco External Manufacturing

What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, Business, Supply Chain, or Engineering
  • At least 5 years of experience in Procurement with a global company
  • At least 3 years of experience supporting a pharmaceutical or animal health GMP manufacturing environment.
  • High level proficiency in spoken/written English.
  • Proven interpersonal skills, especially in conflict situations and collaborates effectively with internal and external teams.
  • Proven skills in negotiating and understanding commercial contracting.
  • Experience in data analysis and report summary
  • Willingness to work outside the typical office hours to accommodate the time differences among different Elanco offices.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications):

  • Knowledge of various procurement tools and the use of artificial intelligence.
  • Previous experience sourcing APIs or other chemistry-based ingredients are highly desirable.
  • Experience in working with global teams and ability to network and influence and drive organizational change even beyond the area of direct responsibility.
  • Demonstrated business acumen, good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, set direction, manage commitments, deadlines, etc.
  • Ability to network and influence and drive organizational change even beyond the area of direct responsibility.
  • Strong communication skills—written, verbal and interpersonal.
  • Leverages broad network (internally & externally) to maintain market knowledge & best practice awareness.

Additional Information:

  • Location: Basel, Switzerland
  • Travel: 10-20% of travel
  • Overnight travel and international travel will be required.
