Job Description:
Hy-Vee is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineering Intern to join our IT team for Summer 2026. As an intern, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers to design, build, and support web applications that power Hy-Vee’s e-commerce, supply chain, finance, and retail operations.
This is a hands-on internship where you’ll contribute to real-world projects using a modern full stack: Node.js, SQL, React, APIs, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You’ll gain exposure to the full software development lifecycle while learning how to build scalable, customer-focused applications in an Agile environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with software engineers to design, develop, and test full-stack applications.
- Write clean, maintainable code in Node.js and React.
- Build and consume RESTful APIs to connect applications and services.
- Query and manage relational databases using SQL.
- Deploy and support applications in Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and team collaboration.
- Contribute to unit testing, debugging, and troubleshooting application issues.
- Document code, processes, and findings to support ongoing improvements.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
- Foundational knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript with exposure to Node.js and React.
- Familiarity with databases (SQL) and writing queries.
- Interest in or exposure to cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communicator who enjoys collaborating in a team environment.
- Curious, motivated, and eager to learn new tools and technologies.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB:
- Qualifications include working toward, or recently acquired, a degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.
- Selected candidates will work up to, and potentially exceeding 40 hours per week.
