Brief Summary Of Role:
The Kinship Connector is a part-time position funded under the NT Government Aboriginal Carers Service (ACS) grant. The role strengthens Aboriginal kinship care by finding, supporting, and sustaining Aboriginal carers so that children can remain safely connected to family, culture, and community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake family finding and kinship mapping to identify potential carers for Aboriginal children.
- Engage with Elders, extended family, and community networks to promote kinship and foster care.
- Deliver community engagement activities such as outreach stalls, information sessions, and recruitment events.
- Guide prospective carers through the Territory Families registration and assessment process.
- Conduct home environment and risk assessments in line with the Care and Protection of Children (Placement Arrangement) Regulations 2010.
- Support carers to complete required checks and documentation (Ochre Card, Police Clearances, Child Protection History).
- Provide information and guidance on carer rights, roles, and responsibilities.
- Provide ongoing case management-style support including home visits, advocacy, and referrals.
- Facilitate access to training, financial supports, and services.
Salary And Conditions:
Employment Type: Parttime (28 hours a week)
EA Classification Range: SCS5
Entitlements/Benefits: 6 Weeks Annual Leave + 2 Weeks Sick Leave + 2 Weeks Ancillary Leave + 1 RDO per Month (Pro-rata basis)
Location: Big Rivers Child & Family Centre - 1/42 Katherine Terrace, Katherine NT 0850
Hours of work: [Monday to Friday | between 08:00am – 4:30pm]
The successful applicant should poses the following attributes, skills and competencies;
- Certificate in Community Services or other relevant field and/or relevant work experience is desirable
- Strong cultural knowledge and lived experience of Aboriginal kinship systems and family structures.
- Experience in case management, community engagement, or carer support.
- High-level literacy and communication skills, with ability to complete case notes, assessments, and reports to professional standards.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to work respectfully with families and carers.
- Ability to understand NT legislation and carer obligations under the child protection framework.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
